Loctite 598 does not appear to be readily available any more. What do people use now instead?

I got some from eBay never put much thought into going halfords. Couldn't even get red rubber grease in there.

I feel I need some of this but I don't know why.

What is it used for? Sump gasket?

I sealed mine with the Loctite 5980, but had to get the sump removed for other work. It took Dan Taylor five minutes of jemmying and rubber hammering to get the sump pan off. Definitely avoid bath sealant!
