Please don't use the std cork gasket, after a while they can do this !! Engine didn't half rattle on start up
No oil getting up to the top of engine , oil pick up blocked solid. Worst one I've seen .....

My Westfield SEiGHT runs A TVR RV8 and I always used RTV rather than the crappy cork gasket. They were fine in the 60's

in the middle of doing mine at the moment going to just use silicone no gasket is it a good idea to make some spacer plates to go on the front and back of the sump to put more pressure on to help stop leaks.

Nothing wrong with cork either so long as you dont over tighten it and the cork is of a suitable grade, never had problems with them to be honest, but would imagine there are some real Mickey Mouse quality ones doing the rounds nowadays i.e breaking up/falling to pieces.

Potzi - I know Paul is a bit of a perfectionist but I think Heath has done the odd sump with the sealant and will also make a v neat job.😁
Slightly different topic but thinking about the sump made me think that it isn't a bad thing to take the sump off very occasionally and check the oil pump is tight. Heard of one getting a bit loose last year and then the engine giving way when the beans were in full use. Not sure how you find that without the sump off - anyone know symptoms?? (Irregular oil pressure ? but you can't always watch the gauge and drive).
