Insurance Liability for locks?
Discussion
Hi all, Having great day so far (not) - seems that my letterbox was "fished" last night and 2 sets of keys were taken from shelf near door (yes I know its stupid and I have now learnt the hard way!!)
They took off with my Lexus but strangely left the Chimaera on the driveway. It was unlocked so they had used the remote but I wonder if they were not sure how to then open the doors (later model) hence unable to get in. The worry is that it will not take them long to work it out and as they have the keys will more than likely be back. - Going to try and park another car to block it in as a temporary measure but long term looks like an alarm/lock change needed - Does anyone know of insurers liability on changing these? Spoke to house insurance as keys were stolen from house but they said they will cough up for door locks on house (yes house keys were on there as well!!) but car locks would be down to car insurer.
Have made a call and they are passing through to another department who will call me back - the way I look at it is that if they don't want to pay up to get them changed then they could be looking at a much larger cost when car goes awol.
Final decision however may be that is not worth getting them to foot the bill as excess is £350 and will also lose my no claims - anyone got an idea what new locks/alarm system could set me back so I can see if it might be worthwhile?

You might also ask the insurance co - if they pay out if the car is stolen with your own keys ..
Mind you, if you get mugged for the keys its a different matter. Since more and more car thefts are with the keys these days it'd be interesting to know...

Just encase they come back, I would take a couple of wheels off the car! This way the scum are less likely to go for you or your family looking for the keys to the motor causing the obstruction!
Billy
Thats a good point!
On another note you dont happen to support Rangers by any chance do you????? Just a guess with that login!
Cheers chaps. Car in fact now been moved to new location completely until locks and alarm can be sorted out. With my only other car having been nicked, was going to have to ask friendly neighbour to block me in - then thought of nightmare senario of damage or worse to their car and suddenly seemed like less of a good idea.
Definitely going to blow off the insurance (even if they say am covered) - sounds like costs may be pretty reasonable and that NCB is oh so precious!!
