Local car radio company will supply and fit for £399 (inc VAT) whereas it looks like ~£320 is the going price on ebay.
What is entailed fitting one in a Chimaera? Worth just getting fitted professionally or try myself?

Sorry old boy, can't help with the fitting thing - I use the cable and ciggie lighter and have no problems.
However, I would advise some caution in choosing the RA2. Don't get me wrong, it's a top quality device (I have an RA Classic and my old man has an RA2, which (IMHO) is much better than mine), but it appears that laser detection devices are due to be banned.
It seems much easier to take away the offending element (i.e. just unplug 'golf ball' laser detector) from the RA Classic than from the RA2, where the laser detection unit is an integral part of the device.

Suppy and fit sounds interesting! Fitting mine means sticking the suction pad to the screen, sitting the Road Angel 2 onto the magnetic pad and plugging in the power lead to the cigartte lighter. In a Tuscan its a 30 second job. I would hope that they are planning to hard wire it in as I can understand in the Chimaera that taking the lead to the cigarette ligther in the door means a wire across the dashboard which may get in the way.
I have never seen one hard wired, but would suggest that you make sure you can remove the road angel and the suction pad when you leave the car unattended. I found that an old laptop power supply bag was ideal for storing it in the boot when not in use.
On the subject of laser detection. I read this at the bottom of the blackspot website home page for Australia and France
"Please note - Road Angel units is these countries are sold without the laser detection capability"
So I would assume that the laser detection can be disabled if the law is passed in the UK. May be worth an e-mail to them to clarify before you buy one.

I sent Blackspot an e-mail this morning and got a reply by return

I would prefer hard wiring as don't want flexi lead from ciggie slot on door over steering wheel and onto dash. Just my preference.
Speak to Silverstone TVR. They did a quality job of installing my RA2 into the Tamora. They have done a few Tuscans as well from what I have seen. You need to wire it into the ignition so it does not stay on permanently and you can just unplug it from the back when necessary.

If you are handy, it can be wired into the main system.
I have wired mine into the Mercedes using the plain cable and feeding the cable down by the top heater vents. This is quite easy, and then spliced the power cable into a live when ignition is on feed, still using the suction base for the anti theft angle. I will do the same on the S3 when it warms up.

I had the original RA in my old Chimaera. Fitted perfectly on top of the steering column and had it permanently wired in by the garage.
IIRC, wiring ran behind/under the dash, past stereo/vents and was connected somewhere behind the dash in the passenger footwell. None of the wires were visible and no problems with the unit locking on to enough satellites.
