These motors are used on out cars for boot and door opening. As we know they fail on a pretty frequent basis.

Maplin are end of lining these, last few at amazing prices. A singe 2 wire unit for 2.99 (as used on the boot), and a kit of 4 (2 2wire and 2 4wire) for £7.99. These are about 75% off. Guy in the shop said there are about 350 of the 2 wire units available, with the most in any one place being Oldam, with 10 units.

See http://www.maplin.co.uk/search?text=central+lockin...

They are 12.15 (2wire) and 17.83 (4wire) from TVR parts.

Brilliant timing. I'm just off to Maplin to get some butane gas for Mrs Bs candle lighter thingumajig.

I think I'll get the kit and shove them in my stock box.

For anyone in Nottingham thinking about stockpiling, the Radford Boulevard store has only the 2 wire single units for the boot.
They told me they do have stock of the 4 piece set in Leicester and Mansfield though

Incidentally, does anyone know for certain we use the 4 wire units in the doors
the guy there told me the difference between the 2 and 4 wires was when doors are opened with a key. So it seems to me we should be only using 2 wire solenoids.

If this is the case, I may just buy one of the 2 wire solenoids as a spare.

The 4 wire units can be used as 2 wire, by using just the green and blue wires, but the doors on the Chim (dont know about others) also use at least one of the other wires if I remember correctly, many beers passed these lips since I last replaced one - so that you can either lock the door with the button in the door, or with the alarm fob. (taking one wire to earth causes the lock action).
