TVR Tunnel Heaven
Discussion
How much would it cost to hire an Antonov 124, 747 Cargo or C5 Galaxy and fly all our TVR's to Madeira for a week of absolute driving nirvana
Unfortunately I was in an AVIS Clio
But seriously in the last five years the Madeirans have built a dual carriageway network round two thirds of the island. Most of that runs through the most amazing tunnels you have ever seen. When not twisting your way through these beautifully constructed tunnels, you blast out across stunning gorges on equally amazing bridges.
Their civil engineers should be applauded
Wonderfull weather, food, hotels.
The blue rinse brigade should not have exclusive rights to this island
Madeira Hoon would be ace.
I can just imagine the new tunnel videos on Luca Brazzi's site.

Does anyone know the minimum runway length required for a fully ladened Antanov 124?
Their new runway (another engineering masterpiece)might still be too short![]()

Depends on the wind, but around 9,500ft.
But if it was just full of cars it wouldnt be anywhere near full to MTOW.
If people are serious about this then I have some contacts with specialist freight companies; (Volga Dnepr - Heavylift) are one that use Antonovs. Would need an idea of numbers to see what aircraft is most appropriate. Weight will not be an issue - the problem will be volume so would also need to know what car you are taking.

US$22,000 round trip, loading in Hamburg!! Not sure if the runway is big enough. You could always drive down to Nice. Nice to Viareggio over 200 Tunnels and Bridges

Thanks jwt63
Madeira's new runway still only 7600ft. And at $22,000 plus the drive to Hamburg, not that practical anyway.
So Nice to Viareggio it is then, roll on September.
