Hi Guys,
Insurance renewal time on the 99 Chim.
Currently with Classicline but had a cheaper quote with Footman James. Although they made a big deal about what catagory the alarm is. I believe it is a CAT 1 from the letter I have (mine is the M99T2 with boot and bonnet switches).
Never been asked before Manufacturer fit has always been ok. Can anyone confirm what Catagory it is please?
Also anyone had any dealings with Footman James? Are classicline any better to deal with if the worst happens than Footman james?

Is the agreed value system at Footman James hastle to do then? For Classic line I just got the TVR car club to do the valuation last year and that was it.

Forget these "specialists".
I have been with Privilege for 3 years. Last year I had fully comp for £250.
This year they tried to put it up to over £800!!!
When I queried this was told it was because of a change in my driving history - on going through it again they actually agreed that nothing had changed but that they would only be able to reduce my premium by "a few quid" from the £800+ just quoted - told them to stuff it.
Remembered that my other insurance company had a multi car set up.
Called them and got the TVR on for £154 extra. The company is Aviva and got both cars insured for £520 and very good service too.
It was obvious that Privilege were just taking the piss.

agreed valuation is not necessarily the best way to go on a car that is currently appreciating (as most TVR's seem to be doing), unless you are agreeing on a price way over the market value.
Last time I tried phoning a lot of the "specialists" they were wanting to charge me 4-10 times more than any of the standard insurers. None of them could demonstrate that their provided service was drastically different. They definitely didn't convince me that it was worth the premium.

Just insured the 390SE through Footman James. The car has no working alarm and I wasn't sure I could clear the crap out of the double garage so advised that it would be left outside (although that wont now be the case). 3000 miles per annum, to/from work and just over £100 all in. Very impressed!

Yep. Very good as well.Having had a very complicated claim through Mannings I can state that they and the insurer, Amlin, are very good. Obviously something you really hope not to use but I can speak from experience here.
I'm with Zippee on this. I also have had to make a claim through Mannings and Amlin and they were both excellent. This is when I'm happy to talk to actual people, the same people each time, people who will recall previous conversations, not some online form or remote call centre. If it wasn't for the extra care put in by the chap looking after my claim my car would have been written off.
I don't think Mannings are uncompetitive but they prove there is more to insurance than just how much the premium is.
The agreed value from Footman James is very very simple.
They send you a form with tick boxes against things like chassis condition and mechanical condition that range from concourse to poor and a space to list modifications, simply complete and return in the post, couldn't be easier.
Oh yes they were £340 a year cheaper than classic line on a like for like basis on my Cerbera this year.

I've spoken to several insurers and dealers about excessive agreed values. It's not. It still gets assessed anyway and of your valuing higher than it should be it could end up causing you issues with the payout.

Have you checked what you actually get in the policy I investigated, there are lots of downsides e.g. Windscreens, lack of track day or event cover, in fact it's pretty basic tbh. Also based on experience of friends with Mannings and classicline your likely to get them paying out on an accident to keep your pride and joy on the road and a normal insurance company...not.I have been with Privilege for 3 years. I was with Mannings last year but Footman James gave a great policy this time round. Massive discount for being in the TVRCC. Simple agreed value as outlined above. That's a fair comment made above though to be careful due to appreciating prices.
Included was the usual windscreen cover and lots of optional extras like track day cover, breakdown, and option to keep the car in the event of a total loss.
Having thankfully not made a claim I cannot comment on that but let's face it, that's down to the underwriter not the broker.

My personal opinion is I would rather go with a specilist who know what a TVR is and more importantly know how differnt they are to a mass produced car. One insurance company I called asked how many seats it had and if it had ABS and Traction control.
Footman James never got back to me with the answers to a few questions I asked. It just so happened that classic line called to make sure I had received my renewal quote. I mentioned the cheaper quote from FJ and they matched it, thew only difference being the Excess. So I have renewed with them for another year.

I was insured with Adrian Flux on my old 370Z, when I rang their TVR specialist number the guy on the other end said they don't insure TVRs because too many people crash them. I would avoid insuring a TVR with Adrian Flux - funnily enough, I gave Admiral a shot and got a very good quote, and the guy I spoke to actually knew what a T350C was and made sure I was happy with the policy I was buying.
