Being my birthday today, I'm of the belief that everyone has to be nice to you, cannot refuse you anything, and you have lots of luck...

Went for a blast in the beast, heading back along the A240 from Epsom to Tolworth Tower, knowing that there are traffic light cameras...make sure they stay green, 40 limit, doing 50, but the cameras only arm when on red...carry on....well past them (20m) they change to yellow, camera flashes!!!! huh? Mine was the only vehicle in the vicinity...

Not fair, and on my birthday.....boo hoo. 14 day wait I guess.

Surely the photo would have to include a picture of the cameras too? In which case you'll be ok.

Happy birthday by the way

Happy Birthday Luca

And Mikey T, glad to see I'm not the only "old bloke" who drives a young mans car (as my good lady says!)

Happy Birthday guys.

Steve me ol' mucker, I hope the letter never comes. Maybe the camera just wanted to salute you and your fine vehicle on your special day!

lol

You'd think it'd want to take a couple of dozens pics where such a gorgeous vehicle is concerned...

Thanks for the birthday wishes everyone, much appreciated.

And the pressie.... the Origin Blue i that I bought 3 months ago...is it me or do other people choose and buy their 'birthday' presents whenever they see something they really want but can't easily justify at the time, so say...."well make it my birthday present then..."

Trouble is, you always hope you get something else as well for your birthday...

Anyway, the Origin Blue is EXCELLENT! But not set to pickup traffic light linked gatsos...which I knew were there anyway.

Steve

If that's true and you got flashed on yellow with no time to stop, then I think you should appeal. It's exactly the sort of thing Councils like to sneak in, like tampering with the timing to make more congestion (true). You might find advice on how to appeal, case studies, etc from the ABD at www.abd.org.uk

Let us know how you get on.

First thing is to check the timing on the lights. There is a set minimum time they have to be on amber before going red. If they are not staying on amber long enough then there is no case to answer IMHO (IANAL). Sorry, I don't know what the minimum time is, but I do know it is speed related (obviously).

I'd passed the light on green, well past it...went yellow, and immediately flashed. Clearly wrong IMO.

Do the traffic light gatso units also note speed, because as I said in my first post, msy having been exceeding the limit a little.

Didn't you say it was a single flash?

In which case it's unlikely to have noted your speed. Two photos, a set time apart would be needed to give proof of your speed. And more than likely markings on the floor....

As far as I can recall UK traffic lights have a 2 second amber phase, all traffic lights are the same.
Not so here in Hungary, some are less than 1 second some as long as 3.5 seconds. Thank goodness there are no red light cameras here yet because the short amber lights seem to be on the higher speed limit roads

Luca - before you complain I suggest you go back to the lights and measure - or even better video - the lights if you think the timing is not correct, especially the time spent on amber. You have to be a bit careful how you proceed because if you let the cat out of the bag to early, the Council may well nip over and make it legal, then defend the case. It's been done before with 30 signs, where a new sign magically appeared overnight after a motorist complained he'd been nicked unfairly as there was no sign. Very cynical.
