Upgrading to 500 brake bits
Discussion
I'm in the process of fitting Griff 500 front brakes to the V8S. In essence going from the standard Ford 240mm set up to 260mm one.
No real issues with the mechanics of this, the caliper and slider are compatible with the existing hub. However the new disc's seem to be a different overall height, i.e. it affects what I'll call the offsert,I'm sure there is a technical brake term for it
.
The original's had a 58mm heigth and a hub diameter of 146mm and the one I have has a height of 53mm and a hub of 150, so it doesn't fit in the caliper, fouling the outside of the disc iyswim
.
I now know there were at least two types of ford 260mm used orignally
. Anyone have the ford part number for the 260mm disc with a height of 58mm the rest is the same i.e 24mm vented, 4 stud 109pcd, hub 146mm.
On the same tack is it worth fitting grooved after market ones
, as these seem to be at least double the price of plain ones. Obviously before I try them all
.

I'm in the process of sorting out the brakes on my 500, so will have a pair of calipers available soon if they're of interest to you. My research confirmed that Sierra Cosworth 2wd 4 pots will go under the 500s rims, indeed one Chimaera owner has done this, but the 4 pots are scarce.
I'm currently getting on a Brembo setup together for the Chimaera and am also considering grooved vs plain disks. Would be glad to hear the thoughts of Pete H too.
Cheers,
Steve.

what you need to do, is find a good indie who stocks that very conversion and purchase the discs from them, you'll likely find they do them in plain and grooved versions too, with pads to match .. in fact you might find the whole thing's about 300 pounds including calipers, if you found an indie who did that very conversion ...
What about EBC discs ?
Try www.ebcbrakesdirect.com
They list various disc's for the Chim.
All the various dimensions are stated, it looks like the TGD216 (grooved) is what you want, or D216 for the direct replacements.
Hope this helps.

TVR used many different varients including Granada discs that were redrilled for the four stud hubs.
As Pete says, it is definitely go and see a good factor and measure up as even with a part number you will still need to check. This can be a bit of a nightmare...
Grooved discs are a good idea if you intend using your brakes hard.

Looked at those too, yes they do seem the right dimensions, however I'm not too sure about the brand. Anyone else care to add a decent grooved type to go for then
Joolz as I was 'gifted' the brakes, its just a matter of getting replacement discs and pads now. Great shame the standard discs that came with it didn't fit straight off as I was going to try the plain discs before spending money on grooved discs

EBC are very good...have been making top notch brake components for bikes for years.
I'm pretty sure some folks have used them on here.
A good value alternative to standard discs IMHO.

Don't disagree they may be good for bikes just not heard too many reports on cars thats all.
Narrowed it down to Black Diamond grooved, not sure about the driled and grooved, any comments
. Also what pads do people use with the BD, what are they BD predator pads like
, or stick to Mintex 1144's on those discs
. The other option is Red Dot 6 groove, again any comments on the discs and what pad combination with them
. Harry
These discs are all plain old cast iron discs and there's not much to choose between them in terms of quality, strength etc. Worth going for grooved discs if you're going to be working the brakes hard, but you don't need a lot (a dozen grooves is plenty). Don't touch drilled discs with a barge pole.
2 sheds said:I can well believe it. 6 or 8 is certainly enough, probably more than. But you can get discs with 20 or even 40 grooves per side, I suppose the theory is if some are good more must be better (and charge more). Madness, all you're doing is reducing the contact area between the pad and the disc, and chopping the pad up quicker.
A guy i know ... recons that 4 groves is optimum.

. I think the BD ones have around 10 but they have won Magazine back to back tests quiet consistantly for performance and I know quiet few Tivs run with them.
