Will go to Austec soon to do some work on my car. Will definitely go for Bosch injectors and ACT inlet hose. On top of that I'm thinking about getting either the ACT manifolds or an Omex system. My budget can't cover both of them, so what shall I chose?
I think the Omex makes a smoother drive and more low-end and midrange torque; I understand it can also rev higher (will that give more bhp, can the engine take it?) The manifolds are supposed to give 25 lbs extra max. torque and have the bonus of removable cats.

what do you reckon?

I'm in the same boat. I will have to get the cam replaced this year, but I'm also considering other options, since as others have said it makes sense to get upgrades done in larger chunks, rather than small changes with mapping at each step.

In addition to the cam I'm considering the ACT twin plenum and the OMEX ignition that Mark Adams does. I've spoken to Tim re the plenum, but I've not been to contact Mark to date. Mark, if you're reading, I'd be interested in your wisdom on the when the ignition is appropriate. Also, fellow owners, I'm very interested to hear your before and after comparisons on such work.

Thanks,

Steve.

I already got the twin plenum and P404 cam; can assure you the difference is enormous.

I'm thinking of staying with a hydraulic setup, because I prefer the convenience. I figure that if it flows well with the ACT plenum, it should still make good power.

Forgive me if I'm being a bit stupid here but what is this OMEX system and what exactly does it do? If I can ever get round to doing it I plan to have a Tornado Chip fitted to the Griff along with ACT inlet pipes, trumpets, twin plenum etc. Any ideas on cost as well?

Cheers - Chris

In the same manner than you can map your fueling specifically to your car, you can also map your ignition. This afaik is what the OMEX system is for. Not sure of the cost, but likely not that cheap.

Cheers,

Steve.

I've got a new boxed OMEX ignition system for sale in the engines section. Make an offer I need funds for the race car!

I have the ACT silicon inlet pipes, 45mm Ally trumpets and enlaregd Throttle, which made a hell of a difference just by doing that.. also just purchased Tornado Chip from Tim at ACT too but gotta get book MA to do his stuff to get the best out of it.
I think Tim said in the past that just the inlet pipes themselves can give quite good gains, forget what figures he said but one of the cheapest power gains bhp/£

Simon, I have just ordered the silicone induction kit with a K&N, what trumpets and throttle did you go for and what they cost?

So no thougths on which one would be better?
How about getting cone inserts (ACT?) for the current manifolds plus the Omex system; might be the best of both worlds?

im having the 404 cam fitted at the end of the moth, but mines with hydraulic lifters.also having compression raised slightly(10.5:1)inlet manifold porting finished(tvr only do half of it),45mm trumpets, and the pre-cats removed.as you can see all this is being done as the heads have to come off anyway due to the new valve springs.so this makes for maximum improvements for minimum labour.the enlarged(72mm) plenum, afm, hoses etc can all be fitted easily later.id choose the omex before the different manifolds also.the distributor is pretty limiting once you start modifying.

Sorry to resurrect an old thread chaps, but have any of you now had the OMEX ignition system fitted? Rich...

Errrm not as such ... Mrs T. and I decided on a Cerbera instead, crossing fingers that we can take delivery of this weekend. There seem to be a few mapping options on the Cerb too.

Rich I've had the OMEX 150 system fitted best part of a year now, not always connected though .
I knew it improved things no end but it wasn't until recently when I had a fault with it and reverted back to the dizzy did I fully realise what improvements it gives my car .
I can now say that without a doubt it sorts out most of the low rpm/light throttle manners, but not eliminate them totally.
It really lets the car rev freely. I could not believe how crisp it makes the throttle response, it flys up the revs like a tuned jap 4 pot not like all the other lumbering V8s IMHO.
As they say its not until you don't have something do you miss it, mine was missing for a week and there is really a large difference in the car on the road .
I would say if you have a standard car which is more than happy with the dizzy leave it. If not then get the Omex , works for me .

Harry

PS speak to Mark and or Paul at Austec they have done a few Tivs now, with mine being the first/prototype, so the developement expenses have been spent by someone else ....

edited to add a PPS....As for the manifold, again I have a similar thing on the V8S, but different . It made a big difference, so much so, Tim had the confidence to go ahead with the griff/chim one based on some of my experiences . tbh he was already there but not in production .

Thanks Harry, definitely something to consider for the future then. At the moment I am trying to get a fuelling problem cured that has manifested itself since I fitted some pre-cat-less manifolds. Looks like I need to spend my cash on Bosch injectors first. Rich...

Take your pic...and there's a Taraka conversion under there somewhere, as well!
