New Boot Damper Not Compressing

Hello all, I have just got gas damper for the boot of my '93 Chimaera from "TVR Parts Ltd" and it isnt compressing. At first I thought it might just be me not applying enough pressure but I assure you that is not the case. I feel like I'm missing a simple solution. Any Suggestions?

Should have it stamped on the side in NM the pressure required to compress it. Compare it to the old one.

You're not trying to compress manually. They do have to exert a fair pressure to lift the boot lid and hold it open.

Having said that - if it is cream crackered,,,send it back.
