So as a relatively new bear, I'm intrigued to see who else on here is an active member? I've loved the events I've done so far but surprised there haven't been more TVRs so far. Only a couple of chims, Clive in his sag and a t350. Next event I'm doing is at the restoration show at the start of March.

Any details on what 'Bears' do? Website? Would be good to know more about it.

Any excuse to fire up Tammy.

I've been doing dream rides with the sporting bears for the last couple of years in the Tuscan....always a cracking event with a great bunch of like minded people. The TVR's are usually kept busy throughout the day as people love the looks, the sound and the experience.
Feel free to PM me, or come and say hi down at the NEC in March.....giving the Tuscan a rest for a while though and trying out a couple of my other cars for a change.

Sporting Bears website is here : http://sportingbears.co.uk

If you look under "events diary" on the left side, you'll find contact details for the organiser of every event - get in touch if you want to take part, it's as simple as that. Note that not all events are on there yet - more are added as dates are confirmed etc, so keep an eye on it for things in your area.

If you look at the lower menu, you'll find the web pages for the local regions, including the local contacts and what's on in that specific area.

I've been involved in Sporting Bears for 10 years now, it's a fantastic way to enjoy your car, give enjoyment to others, and raise money for worthwhile charities at the same time.

Thanks for the brief description git.

I've found it to be a fantastic group of people so far with all ages and being the lower end of the age spectrum I was a bit worried about the age range.

The restoration apparantly we have a bigger plot than they've had for a while so should be plenty of space. It can be quiet sometimes, last year I went all morning ING without doing a single ride then never stopped all afternoon, no one left without a smile.

My favourite event so far was Rockingham though, not a fund raiser, but a day out for all the poorly kids and their family's to come and have a day away from the normal crap routine and have some fun in cars around a race track, had a lump in my throat all day.

It's only about 20quid to join just to cover administration and magazine costs but for me it's one of my favourite clubs to date.

I'll be at the restoration show in my LS tamora so anyone coming feel free to come say hi.

How do you go on insurance-wise with sporting bears? Just curious as it seems a good thing.

Because you don't personally collect any money (its all done through a booking desk), it's really no different from giving someone a lift (although the on-track events might be different). The organiser usually asks you to get a letter from your insurer confirming cover. I think there's a template letter the web site, to send to your insurer. I have done Dream rides 8 times (I think) plus other events and have never had a problem.

I just rang manning UK up and explained what I was doing, they were already familiar with what it was and sent me a letter via email Confirming I was insured. You are not allowed to do dream rides without this.

The track events, you won't be covered, however it's not really a trackday, you won't be driving to the very limit of the car and people arnt trying to race you either so not really much of a risk.

I've done a fair few events though none last year due to other things getting in the way. I love it, a great way to meet other people, show off your car and raise funds for great causes. Nec classic is my favourite, and I hope to do a few more this year.
The only ones I can't do are track events like Rockingham due to the db levels on my car...

Been a member for a few years now - wrote up the Aintree event for December's Sprint.

Sporting Bears and TVR ownership go together well. Don't get to as many events as I'd like but have done Cholmondeley, NEC Classic Car show - booked to do the gambol again this year again, brilliant fun!

Great people, supporting some fantastic charities.

had just been reading about the gambol in the magazine and was wondering whether to give it a go, well worth doing then you reckon?

The gambol is a superb event - basically a non-competitive road rally. If you don't like driving in convoy but want a great couple of days motoring with a bunch of petrolheads from all walks of life - give it a go. You do need a navigator though!

This year it'll head across to Beamish (Kielder last year).

Book quickly though - places go fast. This was us setting off from the Fat Lamb...

Dad and I are members of the club, have been for about 2/3 years now. It's a great group, opened a whole new social circle and group of friends to us - and we get to raise money for charities in the process and meet some very interesting people.

This will be both of our first year's in the Chimaera and Elise, but from what we've seen TVR's are always popular with the public biggrin

Just signed up. Something I've been thinking about for a while, and this thread gave me the kick I needed to get off my arse and do something.

Think I remember meeting you at the NEC a year or so back - your old man have a silver boxster at the time?

Downloaded the form this week, might as well let others enjoy the straight through bark smile

Be a good excuse to raise some money, bring some smiles and use the car more.
