While driving the Chimaera a couple of days ago, I noticed a new and worrying noise. On changing gear, especially the low gears, there was a distinct loud Ding! noise, though no trouble getting the gear. Very worrying, gearbox problems?
Spoke to Matt at Silvertstone TVR and described the noise - he was a bit puzzled, so we agreed I'd take the car down today for him to drive and listen to it. I duly engage gear to set off, and sure enough a loud Ding! rings out...hold on, let's try that again...and realise that the boots I am wearing are striking the clutch pedal arm and, well, you get the picture.
Matt was highly amused when I rang to tell him I'm not going down there after all - remember the VW advert, he said? Oh yeah, the earring...

The workshop fix sheet for the item said "Secured oil can in boot."
Lmao, if I were working in that garage, I dont know if I would have either done that, told you when I gave you the keys back or just not mentioned it unless you brought it up. Probably the same as them actually...
I cant think of any right now, but Im sure Ive done worse.

I had my slave cylinder rebuilt and afterwards there was a distinct tough spot about half way down the pedal travel. I was a bit worried that it might go again so I nipped in to Joolz one day and asked him to check it for me.
He climbed in and gave it a go. A few seconds later he climbed back out muttering 'not normal' as he reached inside and pulled the footmat out the way of the pedal!!! Foolish me

Working in a large main dealer I see quite a few like this although one of the best I remember was the lady who asked us to check an oil leak from behind the rear wheel. Sounds odd but a quick check in the boot revealed 1/2lb of butter dropped from the shopping and melting with the heat of the exhaust.

I had to slow down a bit last night as I was getting clonk oversteer.
Carrying unsecured wheel vertical in the boot. Approach roundabout, turn in, "CLONK", oversteer, steer into skid, steer for required exit, "CLONK", oversteer...
.Many moons ago while I was at college, I was heavily into pushbikes (still am a bit, although the 2 stones of flab say otherwise). On the downstroke of each revolution, the crank would go all stiff and non-compliant. I was absolutely certain that the new pedals I'd bought, with toeclips, were the cause of the problem.
Anyway, I took it into Harry Halls in Manchester, and spent 30 minutes arguing with one of the poor shop assistants who couldn't find anything wrong with it, and at the end of the 30 minutes just walked off (can't blame him really).
On the way home that night, I suddenly realised that it was the thick sole of my college-spec big man boots that was rubbing against the Crank arm.
A few weeks later, I bought some clip pedals and cleats........
