I am about to renew the insurance for my 1989 400SE and so far the best quote I have had is from Manning under there classic car policy. Under this classic policy there is no no-claims discount, I have 4+ years NCD under my current policy.

Does anyone have experience of moving from a classic policy back to a standard policy. The reason I ask is that my car does not have an immobilser. Manning will cover a car not fitted with an immobiliser within certain postcodes, including mine.

I am worried that this condition would change in the future. I will either have to fit an immobiliser or go back to a standard policy. If I go back to a standard policy will I still be entitled to any NCD that I had prior to taking out the classic car policy ?

They might be OK for you if you don't want to do trackdays. See the thread on TVR Performance Technique Day

Had the same problem but the new insurers accepted letters from previous insurers. Get one now off your existing one to state no claims made etc on that policy. One of the previous was Independant, or rather the firm looking after the fallout, letter supplied quickly. Don't know if there is a time limit or they all do it though.

They can keep your NCD certificate "valid" for two years, then it will officially lapse. You may be able to get letters and what not to confirm an absence in that time, but that is not guaranteed. I had an S2 for 2 years, then got rid of it to buy the Griff. Mannings were only too happy to provide the NCD certificate for the requisite number of years.
