Tamora or Tuscan?
Discussion
Its come to that time again! My piggy bank has burnt a big hole in its bottom and is begging me to spend my hard earned on the hedonistic persuit of speed (probably attention too).
I would like to buy a TVR, but dont know which one. I narrowed it down to two possibles. See title.
25k'ish or less budget.
Is there any good reasons why I should choose one or the other? I mean 'mechanical' reasons i.e. the mod to the Tam steering rack.
What should I look/listen for when looking around these cars? Whats the best milage? etc...
I guess this has been answered a thousand times on this site but I cant seem to make it search at the mo.
Gonna test drive both on friday!

was thinking along these lines for my next puchase too...
I like the tuscan I coz you can take the top off and the back window out...but bonnet is a bit of a farce to get off on your own...but the boot is a good size...it's ironically the only second-hand car where having had a blown engine is a selling point
I like the tamora but the boot is a bit small after the Chim's cavernous one. Also Tam price seems stronger as there are less of them about.
Like the T350 a lot BUT it isn't a soft top or a (proper)targa, not sure if I could live with that.Although I intend to keep the Chim to emulate my hero B.T.P. - Hello Bob
Tuscan II conv looks perfect but too pricy at the min.
ah...decisions, decisions.

I've had both, and they are different machines , even though the chassis are vertually the same.
for £25k you will get a mk 1 Tamora, with the headlights being different and the tail lights being a little lower.
You will also get a Tuscan, maybe even a nice Red rose for this price.
The Red Rose Tuscan will be faster, the tamora more nimble than the Tuscan tho.
You will have more of a sense of 'convertable' with the Tamora, but maybe more prone to leaks.
As for the engine, who knows. For this price you will be circa 2002 for the Tamora and 2001 for a Tuscan. Some people say the engine is sorted after 2003, but, you never know what engine you have in your car year wise.
Have a drive, see what you think, the Tuscan is bigger than the Tamora, and has a bigger boot etc etc.

A quick check of the PH classifieds shows 40 Tuscans and 4 Tamoras.
I LOVE Tam Girl's Tamora. It's just stunning in real life, but then so is Ehasler's TuscanS.
It's a tough choice, but such an enviable choice.
Drive both, if you like both, just choose the one you like the colour of!

Well well,
I kind of tested both (but not really)...
My mate has a Tam, very nice, very loud, very fast. But arnt they all?! Best thing is he let me have a go! WOOOWOW. Appart from the obvious massive performance, I was really impressed actually how easy it was to drive in an every day sense.
I also went to a couple of garages. The guys there were really friendly and helpful. On one occasion I went out in a tam with one of them, which was cool. The chap was able to give me an idea of what the car can do. I've always tought that that the TVR's in general are hairy beasts ready to maul yer arm off. But actually, when prodded firmly, give really possitive and progressive feedback.
The steering and seating position are surprisingly similar to my S2000. The main difference seemed to be the power.
I went out in a Tuscan S but did'nt get to drive. They could'nt insure under 30's. Nice car, love the styling. Thats as much as I can say about it.
I was advised (as I have been on this forum) 'go for the one you like the look of'.
My undestanding of TVR is that their cars evolve with each new design. Therefore the Tam should be best, I guess.
Tam's appear to be a bit cheaper and a bit more rare too.
The long and short of it is,... I went for the Tam!
Redbull Blue, Prussian and portland, Sport exhaust! NICE.

Wow welcome to the Tamora ownership club! You wont regret it! I was originally going to get a tuscan but the Tamora rareness coupled with looks that grow on you and an awesome drive swung it back to the Tamora!
Exactly the same for me... I went out looking with my mind set on a Tuscan and saw a lovely 2004 Tamora and changed my mind. I pick it up on Friday and can't wait!

Another former S2000 owner into a Tamora - well done! When do you collect it?
Personally, I found the seating position so much lower than S2000, getting back into the Honda after test drive felt like getting into a Jeep! And you are more cocooned by the transmission tunnel and door elbow rest. Also find the steering much more lively and informative than the Honda.
Good choice, and wish you all the best with it

i.e. Less popular
I reckon the people that don't buy Tamoras are all bloody golfers, that bane of the earth pastime
Other than for putting a set of golf clubs into, I cannot see what complaint you would have with the size of the Tamora boot, which is bigger than the S2000 boot, and many other convertibles.
And with the targa top off, your rear window won't blow out like it will in a Tuscan

Excellent choice of car.
The Tamora is the most memorable TVR I've driven. It did everything so well with the only downside being the knack of getting the top in the boot.
For ride, road-holding, comfort and driveability, and lots more, it was unbeatable. I was especially impressed by how little buffeting there was with the top down, whether or not the windows or rear window bit were up.
Whilst the car is one of the rarer TVRs, from chats with dealers, it has 'taken off' and new and second-hand stock moves very quickly.
The car made me feel as if I was a brilliant driver. It is that good.

The Tam is great for everyday use. As the power comes in progressively, you can pootle around town without worrying about teraring off. At c.2500-2700 rpm the exhaust burbles fantastically, turning a few heads. Topless there's much less wind noise than my Chim, and the heater and aircon do work!
