Deflating tyres

The tyres on my 4.5 Cerbie are always slightly deflated when I go out to drive. I''ve ruled out the local kids, so can only assume its a slow puncture. At most, its not driven for a week, usually all weekend and once or twice during the week. Some of mine are worse than others, but they do all go down. Anyone elses tyres slowly deflate? I''m popping to a tyre place tomorrow cos it looks like I have a slight rip in the tirewall, and didn''t want to do any long/fast journeys with dodgy tires, and want to ensure they don''t give me any flannel and I end up buying anything I don''t want to. Sounds like they just want resealing on the rims - the tyre dealer will probably suggest this first.

They should be able to reseal the tyres, you may find that the lacquer on the wheels is lifting letting out air. If the cut on the side wall is showing the cords then get it changed, if not and there’s no budging the tyre should be ok. One thing if they take the tyres off to clean the rims make sure they rebalance them or line them back up with the old weights. You may find they are reluctant to do anything with the tyres, its risky for a company to disturb an expense tyre just for a repair or reseal.

Sounds a bit obvious but have you checked the valves. Had no problem myself but the all metal ones are supposedly prone to leaking

Sounds even more obvious than a bit obvious but have you considered putting them under water to see where they are leaking from

Yeah, Got the garage to get me a new set of valves (had thought of that). Did contemplate taking the wheels off and putting them in some water, but I'd need a big bowl, and no trolly jack or axle stands to aid my wheel removal. AS far as the metal valves go, a little leakage is acceptable, but they were dropping from 22 (front) to 15 within a couple of weeks. Just don't want any problems with tyres when I'm in the middle of Ireland, or "crusing" on the autobahn. Cheers Paul

Use your bathtub. I take a footpump and pressure gauge with me on any long trips - they hardly take any space up. Not needed the pump in an emergency yet, but I'm bound to the one time I don't take it. Trefor/. P.S. Just got a nice big screw in a brand new 225/45 x17 on my Audi - sh1t.
