Serpentine Belt Alignment.

Replaced the idler pulley a few weeks ago. While checking oil and stuff today I noticed that the belt has jumped backward and is running one vee out of alignment.

It seems to me that the idler pulley is too far forward. Nothing is lose and it's new. The only thing I can think of is to remove the engine mounting plate/hook that sits behind it which will allow the casting to which the pulley is fitted to sit further aft.

I would look closely at your idler pulley assembly , you will see that the bearing is coming out the housing. There is no circlip holding the bearing case in position , I to fitted a new idler assembly and the same thing happened , eventually fed up with the pulley trying to eat its way through the swirl tank I removed the assembly and centre popped around the circumference of the bearing and used locktight to hold it in place , no problems since

Oddly enough I did think the gap between the pulley and the casting was a bit much.

First chance I get I'll whip it out and have a look.
