The Chimaera (Starmist Blue, magnolia interior with dark blue carpets) is in for a full respray (due to stone chips and scratches, nothing serious) and is starting prep tomorrow. A bit belatedly I thought perhaps I should take the opportunity to change the colour to a more interesting blue. I'm especially indecisive when it comes to colours (e.g. it took me longer to choose a colour to paint the house exterior than it took to choose the house).

I know I want blue, and metallic or pearl.

This has pitfalls, as the shortlist is based on photos only, often from dealer ads and the dealer may have the colour wrong, and in photos it depends on the lighting, supposedly different colours can look the same, and supposedly same colours can look different.

So as well as the fun poll I have a few questions. If anyone knows the answers or has some photos that are definitively any of the above colours, I'd be eternally grateful!

1) What's the difference between Dodge Viper Blue (deltron 8ML9B/TVR.*0010), Viper Blue Mica (deltron TVR.PB45) and Viper GTS2 Blue (Aquabase YLE7B)?
2) Which of the above colours in the poll are metallic or pearl? (other than Starmist, which I'm familiar with). Paint code lists usually don't say.
3) Anyone know what colour this is? http://www.autogespot.fr/tvr-chimaera-500/2014/06/...

Photos that I used to put together the short list, in case anyone is interested enough to flick through them or finds this post useful in future. If it would be more helpful to include the images inline, I could do that but would be a long post.

It was on my longlist as I quite like it, but showed it to a few people (wife, brothers, so on) and none were keen on it due to the purple hue. So it didn't make the shortlist.
Actually as purple goes, I rather like this as well, but no idea what it's called, perhaps it's paradise purple.

My Chim is Jaguar Pacific Blue , similar to Starmist. I think the darker shades of Blue get a richer shine .. but I'm a polisher smile

My Griffith is Ocean Blue (Porsche colour) no photos to hand..

but here are some Porsches in that colour
https://www.google.co.uk/search?q=ocean+blue+porsc...

(v similar to starmist, bit darker, hint of green in sunlight, I choose this as when I bought it new I was told TVR weren't doing starmist any more, too soft/ my old griff was starmist )

Thanks, and I have to say, Viper blue is the lead contender at the moment and yours looks splendid (and reassuringly is what I thought Viper blue looks like), I'm just a bit puzzled by the paint codes. You don't by any chance know what your paint code was, do you? Or whether it is pearl or metallic?

When I look up the Dodge Viper, I get images of VIN plates with the paint code PBE. And if I look that up on the PPG website, it does come up with a likely candidate: http://www.ppgpaintit.com/Collision.aspx?Brand=PPG...
the name for which is "VIPER GTS BLUE PRL B/C". Of course, that doesn't tie up with the TVR paint code lists, the closest code match is TVR.PB45 which is "Viper Blue Mica". But then if you look up "PBE" in the Nexa spreadsheets in the "OE Code" field, you get a Chrysler colour called "Butane Blue" with several variants. Elsewhere on the Chrysler list there is "Viper Bright Blue" (OE code PBC) but no "Viper Blue" as such, but on the Nexa list under "TVR" it has "Viper GTS2 Blue" as an Aquabase paint, but the dude spraying the car hates water based paints so that may not work..

I had the same dilemma recently. The eventual winner was Ferrari Tour de France blue.

Here's my old Chim which was Tahiti blue. I felt it had just the right trade off between a dark hue yet allowing the metallic paint to really pop when the sun was out.

edited to add: Just realised you linked to this one in your OP! thumbup

Indeed, I found your photos somewhere in my research and they stood out, both for the colour and the way that the photos captured it well. Those photos are why Tahiti Blue is on the list! Is it metallic or pearl though? I think I've seen it mostly referred to as pearl.

Which blues are fastest? I'd say Olympic Blue, since this would be the fittest and at the top of their game

It was a metallic. Sorry - can't help on the code as I sold her 8 years ago.

Some 'blue' ideas in this old thread.

http://www.pistonheads.com/gassing/topic.asp?t=124...

My choice would be Aston Martin's Antrim blue which is in the thread.

Mmmm, that thread has me thinking about yellow now, which I've always liked on Chims. Might work with the blue roof & carpets, Not sure it'd go with the magnolia trim though.
