That ole starter motor thread!

On a mini-hoon to Dartmouth at the weekend I had one of those sticky starter moments after a rather spirited drive.

Are all the starters the same?

Mine turned out to be the fact that my battery was on the way out... diagnosed by starting the engine with the headlights on (they dimmed).

A new battery has resolved the problem, and no more hot starting issues

Turned out to be the original '99 vintage battery, holding a full 8V of charge

Same here - turned out it was a rather cheap low crank rated battery - no starting issues since change!

My sticky starter somehow stuck in stages for slightly stretched spells, surrounding spanking-new sale of serbera to self and was swapped under service-contract without spat.

Mine started to play up end of last summer. Took it to Blackpool when I was back home where it was sent off for re-conditioning. Cost about £60 I think and fine so far, though of course when it plays up next time it'll be a replacement.

Try putting the relay "back" in the solenoid circuit, cured many cars and if not certainly should have a relay in it, just like Range Rover.
