Apparently most of his fifth gear sales are from people damaging the gear trying to remove it

Any thoughts or suggestions?

My dad has made this for me and it works perfectly

Only been tested with damaged 5th so far, but designed to be safe for undamaged gears

That's a really neat solution.

I'm not sure why you'd be removing that 5th gear though? Looks perfectly serviceable to me. Maybe just dress the teeth up a little?!!

First, you don't have much clearance because of the countershaft

Second, Paul Cangialosi says most of his 5th gear sales are from people removing intact 5th gears that way

Well if you need to replace that bearing you need to remove 5th is how they get damaged I would imagine
