Water filer for the garage?

Some time ago I seem to remember I read on here a review of a water filter (softener/conditioner?) that basically fitted to an outside tap so it could be used for the water supply for washing cars? I remember it needed the filter changing every couple of months so it must have been like a giant Brita jug filter idea? I've done a search on the forums and can't find reference to it. Anyone remember anything about it? Please... Rich...

Don't know about that, but is it like the new advert for washing your car from Persil (I think). You can apparently wash the car and not shammy off the water....which usually means big blotchy water tide marks. Could be the same idea...or I may have the wrong end of the stick...which wouldn't be the first time! When I first saw the advert on telly, I must admit, I was interested as I like washing the car but hate going around it after wiping it dry...it was a small box like afair which went on the end of the hose.
Perhaps someone will ellaborate with more detail/knowledge.

Thing is, that Flash effort is basically bollox. To properly wash a car you have to get your hands dirty. Dirt doesn't spray off with soap.

Except with the flash thing your still expected to get your sponge or mitt out. you just use the flash thing to provide the soap and then do a final rinse with the filtered water.

Or you could do what my brother did, which is when he designed his house he included a buried 500+ gallon tank in the garden, with supply from all of the roof downpipes to collect the soft rainwater (live in rural area) and a filter and pump system, just to wash his cars. Some may consider this a bit OTT however

Yes and no. I already have a water softener in my house and the garage supply is from the softened water and yes it does use salt. What I am thinking of is a "filter" not a softener. That way I can use filtered water in the garage. I am sure I saw a review of said item here on Psitonheads, and yes Dave it may nave been Der's post but there's no review with that? Rich...
