TVR's & Safety
Discussion
I light of the terrible news, I have just found myself thinking, at what point will TVR decide that 'some' safety features are now essenital ?
I remember the other day when looking at another day, the girlfriend sat in it & said 'I would drive this'. She has never driven the TVR to this day. It was only because of the 4 airbags fitted around the driver & passneger seats.
I know the reasons why they don't, weight/costs, etc. But surely they have to see sense soon.
I know this will sound like a knee-jerk reaction, but, what price can be put on a persons life ? Surely a few hundred or even a couple of thousand pounds increase in car cost is worth the while ?
If any mods feel this post is inappropriate then please feel free to delete it, but personally feel that it is now a subject that needs serious thought & action.

I don't think this thread is tasteful or appropriate at this time.
But these dreadful accidents keep getting reported.
I hope that it is only because the TVR community is pretty close knit that we read about this sort of thing so frequently.
Still, let's keep it dignified.

Absolutely not.
Want safety features buy elsewhere.
I was in a headon collision with a petrol tanker last july. I specced the MG at the time without a passenger airbag to save weight. My airbag went off, all it did was burn my fum, my face never touched it. The passenger had an acre of room between her and the dash.
Id do the same again.
No safety features. You want them, buy elsewhere.

If TVR started putting ABS Airbags, traction control id go for a different manufacture.
The whole apeal of TVR. (well to me) is its rawness.
its the whole being in control of a wild animal sorto of thing.
The recent accedent was deeply sadening. but it shouldn't put you off TVRS or what they stand for.
P.S having seen what airbags do! i wouldnt be too happy with one. give me a harness and a roll cage anyday!!

I'm sure that no dealers allow anybody to take a test drive without satisfying themselves that the risks are acceptable. The rest of us choose to get into them in our spare time.

For me the answer to you question is - whatever an individual is prepared to spend, but do not force everybody else to do it.
Personally, I think that TVR might look into providing some of this stuff as options. But if they don't and you are concerned the answer is simple. Buy something else.
What was the cause of the accident? Who caused it? Would these devices have made any difference?
Can you tell? No. I thought not. Since we don't know what caused this accident any speculation is totaly pointless, and as has already been said, not particularly appropriate.
Personally I favour driver "aids" but I don't feel this is the thread or the time to discuss the issue.
