A 2 seater seats 2. Only 2

Rant time.

If you own a 2 seater TVR then it only seats 2. It has 2 seats, 2 seat belts and is designed to safely take 2 people, one driver, one passenger.

It is NOT designed to take 2 adults in the front seats and one child sitting up on the parcel shelf! If you have to stop suddenly, or are in an accident the small child will be thrown from the car and probably killed FFS!

If you're the driver of the blue Chim on the A283 yesterday, you'll know what I'm talking about.

There was a similar thread over a year ago, where I expressed similar opinions to yourself. I was amazed at how many people flamed me and said it was down to personal choice, and individuals responsibility. I like you was horrified that some can have so little consideration for their childrens wellfare.

We used to have a Chim owner who would show up to club meets with 3 kids in the car - only 1 in the seat, the other two perched precariously on the shelf.

The driver was very diligent in ensuring he had his OWN seatbelt done up.

I was lost for words.

You & me both Di - I was accused of being a member of the nanny state by people who used to sit in their parents cars in similar situations.

So did I & so did one of the best friends I ever had - guess what - he was killed in a car crash

I have seen a Grif with a dog on the parcel shelf with a racing harness holding it in place (and large medallion hanging from the collar!)

Seriously, I read that it was partly intended to be dog space behind the seats. Our dog is often to be found back there with a suitable harness on when we are out and about.

TVR Eng use to sell a dog kit for the Chim/Griff which consisted of a loop in the far bottom of the passenger footwell (for the lead and thus to keep the dog in the footwell area) and then a cover (which matched the interior) which went over the passenger seat squab and half the transmission tunnel (for dog hairs and dog spit no doubt).

I remember comming back down the m6 on the parcel shelf behind my brother and did in a Sprite for Gods sakes when I was younger. That was great fun, and I was never a small lad even when I was young teens.

In the light of other threads on here at the moment - who knows whats coming round the corner - no matter how carefully you are driving!

None of us would risk our chilrens safety intentionally - but surely its not worth taking a chance.

So you don't take your child in the car with you then? You might have a side impact from a 4x4 you know, or a truck. Or you might roll over.

The only legitimate argument would be that it's against the law; is this ACTUALLY the case? If not then, however well intentioned, you are preaching, and imposing your attitude to risk on others.

For myself I don't intend to have an accident so secondary safety measures are irrelevant. My child would be safer on the parcel shelf of my TVR with me at the wheel than in a child seat in the tin-top of a few people I can think of.
