Toyo T1-R or T1-S?
Discussion
The 'S' Proxys are being phased out and replaced by the R's so think ahead. Do you want to need new tyres for the rear and find that the car will have 'S's' on the front and 'R's' on the rear?
The 'R's get rave reviews but suspect they are stiffer sidewalled. That is where the 'S' scores as it leaves some compliance.

The R's do indeed have stiffened sidewalls as the most common complaint from TVR drivers coming from Bridgestone SO2s was that while the Toyos had more grip, they were a little more squidgy. Frankly I was personally happy to trade off a modicum of steering feel for a marginally softer ride than the hard-as-nails S02s (and the even worse SO3s).
The other issue raised was question marks over the T1S's wet handling. Again, I found them better than the S02s, but others would disagree.
So in all, the R's are designed to combat both questions with a reinforced sidewall to prevent so much scrub and squat, plus a redesigned tread to give even better wet handling.
In track terms, a pal and I (he a far better drive than I) compared my Chim's T1Ss and his Tuscan S Eagle F1s at Oulton Park. The S's warmed up far quicker, and coped better with the stresses of track work, wearing evenly and neatly. The F1s took far longer to warm up and then once warm they tore and split all over the place. He sent the Tusc S back to TVR (it was a review car) with a strongly worded suggestion that they ditch the F1s! Great tyres for the road, next to useless on the track.
I've driven Cerbs on S02s and 3s, and Tuscans on S03s and Goddyear Eagle F1s. My Chimaera went from S02s to T1S's. In a couple of months when the S02s expire on my Cerb, I shall without a doubt go straight to the T1Rs.
*Flamecoat on* - This is just my opinion, from my experience! I had F1s on my two previous Saabs and they were fabulous, but I'm not convinced they cut it on a TVR. S02s were good, T1S's better, S03s should be ritually burned!

I'm putting 'S' on my Griff as I have done all the research and no-one else gets close.
Agree on the Goodyear F1 comments, good tyres, but believe you can only get GSD2 for the front and GSD3 for the rear, so you would still have different construction tyres front and rear.
Just for info I have had a go to see if Yokohama will meet the Griff/Chim demands and have one of their biggest sellers on side in pushing them for a TVR solution. I will keep all parties informed if I get anywhere.
The problem for everyone with Griff's or Chims is that what were once high performance tyres are now common tyres for family hatches so the choice of high rated tyres with the necessary characteristics is becoming limited.
