Chimaera Alarm Help

I have a 1994 Chimaera and the insurance is due next week. Only problem is that they are now insisting on a Thatcham Catagory 1 system. Anyone know if the factory system meets this spec please ?

My understanding is that the factory fitted alarm WOULD be a Thatcham CAT1 if two extra criteria were met:
1. The car was not a convertible; and
2. TVR had used approved (i.e. qualified) fitters.

If it's a problem for your insurers, shop around. I think most cars are running the standard alarm system, and presumably they are all insured.

my insurance company also insisted I get a Thatcham alarm, I swapped insurance companies and saved £200!!!
There are loads of companies who are very accomodating.

Ditto the other comments...if your current broker is being difficult, change brokers.

I notice from your profile that the Chimp is a second car, and being a '94 model is now qualifies as a 'classic'. Try Classicline (01455 639000). They were very reasonable indeed for me on my '93 Griff 500 (£400-odd per year @ 36 years old).

If you phone the service dept. at TVR they will send you a standard letter detailing the alarm fitted to the cars and how it relates to the catagories. My insurers were more than happy with that document.

Thanks for your help guys - changed insurer to Peart, no cat 1 alarm required, they were happy with factory fit and saved nearly £300 !!!
