Removing waxoyle

Need to do some repair work on my old S chassis, it has been waxoyled a few times, I but would like to do a proper job this time and clean/paint then waxoyle.

But how do I get the old waxoyle off before I start ??

White spirit will get it off. But you're going to get messy....

Suggest a better solution might be a carefully supervised steam clean. I'm assuming this won't have any effect on the fibreglass...
