Hi Guys, does anyone know what the resistance of the Griff cooling fans should be?

Thanks

Finding out the resistance value of a motor can be difficult, manufacturers do sometimes give current consumption figures
Do you have a cooling fan problem?

Yes , basically each fan is on a separate fuse and one has blown so I want to check it’s not the motor on the notion that if a fuse blows there’s something wrong.

can you check resistance on the working fan if roughly the same should be ok

They are the same and I have found some spade terminal further down the line where the plastic insulation has melted, look like this could be it, a short.

Out of interest I only found 1 ohm across each fan.

Some one clever here will probably explain why so low but, the fact they are the same is good. P

What you are doing is measuring the resistance of the carbon brushes and thickish armature windings that are good conductors

You could connect the fan to the battery with a fuse to test it but will need to hold on tight if it's not mounted to the car

Ignore the fact that the resistances of the fan motors are similar as this doesn't mean they are both good

swop the wiring from 1 fan to the other and see if it works

So the upshot was the wrong rating of spade connector (blue 15A) had been used to supply the fans. The connectors were getting hot, the plastic insulation melted and they shorted out.

Lucky in a way this all happened in cold weather as one fan running may have not been enough in a hot summer.

Anyway happy days, thanks to all for help.
