Guys,

I had a battery booster (until last week when it died), it was one of those “old fashioned one” like you can buy at Halfords, quite big and heavy (30 x 30 cm or more).

I do not use the booster often, as I have a battery brain on my Chimaera (which does not get used often), but as a piece of mine I would like to get a replacement one.

Always useful to get you out of trouble: I have a chimaera, a Vespa, a family car and hopefully this year I will be buying another car I do not need.

So as I said, I would like to buy a new “battery booster / power pack”, but I want to buy a Lithium battery based one and one of those small ones, which is the size of a computer hard drive.

Question: are they any good and had anyone here a version they recommend?

There are lots of E-bay for £40 who claim to start cars of up to 5 or 6L. I say claim, and I would like information from people who have actually got one and have tested one…

At Halfords those £40 ones are about £80…

Any help would be welcome.

Just in case, my Chimaera is a 5L and I obviously need the battery pack to be able to crank up a 5L engine!

I know that jump starting a car is not ideal, so not need to tell me about this: it kills the battery, etc…, but I rather start the car and be able to use it and damage the battery more than it already is, than not start eth car at all…

All the best, Eric

There's one on Amazon that states it will do a 4l it's only £34 when you enable the voucher.

I have a "Car Rover" branded one that claims to be 14000mah and 800Amps peak. It's the amps that will start the car and the mah to say how many times it might work before charging. I've managed to start my 450 a couple of times without any issues. I think I paid a fair bit more than £30-£40 quid though. Maybe £60-70 as I wanted to be self sufficient if I got a flat battery in Europe.

That inc the accessories looks very much like a branded up version of the cheap Chinese ones you can buy for a fraction of that price.

Sensible price on these.

Have a look on YouTube too. Some demo's of them being used.
