The following groups, tvrccmaillist, USA-TVR and V8TVRs_pre1990, are still listed on the site groups.yahoo.com, are minimally active, but contain almost 20 years of valuable information.

Back in January of this year, the moderator of other Yahoo groups that I belong to notified members of his group that Verizon had purchased Yahoo, and since the purchase, they were not only no longer providing support to Yahoo Groups but also randomly purging groups in their entirety without any warning. As a result, and as a protective measure, he moved his groups and all their content to a site called groups.io at no cost.

At that point I sent individual emails to the owners of each of the TVR groups on Yahoo that this was happening, and warned them that they might want to move their respective TVR group to groups.io, in order to preserve all of that data being housed on Yahoo. I received no response to my warning email. Within the last few days another group, TVR_Pre1980, disappeared without warning. The owner of the USA-TVR has contacted me and is looking into moving that group onto groups.io.

I would have been happy to initiate the movement of that information, but I have learned that one must be an owner or moderator (which I am not) in order to do so. Does anyone here know who the owners/moderators of tvrccmaillist and V8TVRs_pre1990 are? They could either initiate the process by looking at the information located at this link: ( https://groups.io/yahootransfer ), or make some interested third-party an owner/moderator so that they might save/migrate those groups.

It would be terrible if we lose all of that historical and helpful data! I have no connection to groups.io, I am only interested in seeing all of this TVR data preserved.

Thanks!
George

Bump because I also agree these groups should be preserved. I was a member, can't remember my log in details though. I think I used an old freeserve email address.

Not unless someone, somewhere had made a copy and stored it locally. I've sent another email to the tvrccmaillist owner as well as to the folks at TVRCC HQ. Hopefully someone will reply to me.

George, I'm still a moderator of that group. I've sent you an invite - please respond to that and I'll make you a moderator.

OK, it finally showed up in my Yahoo mailbox, I responded and was given moderator privileges. Nothing has shown up in the ec.**.com mailbox yet.

Now, do you know who is the Owner of the Yahoo group?

1. As moderators, we can't get rid of the group once it is copied over to groups.io, nor can we make corrections to the obviously incorrect information that refers to egroups.com, including the unsubscribe address.
2. That copy process is a one shot deal, so if any new postings are made to the Yahoo group, they won't be ported over.

I'm hesitant to begin the process until we can get to the group owner. What do you think? Any ideas?

Also, send an email to me at the ec.**.com address so that I have a good, "regular" email address for you.

Thanks for the warning. Nothing car related, but I managed to retrieve 750-800 photos from 2 groups. Not being the owner/mod, that was the only option. I have informed the owner of the easy transfer option. If anyone knows how to easily download the photo captions, I’d be interested. Took me 4 hours for just the photos, would have taken maybe 12 hours, individually copying the captions.

Thanks for contacting the owner. I trust that he will initiate the transfer/migration before its too late.
