I'm contemplating taking the Tamora to Ireland via ferry next year. If I bring the dog, does he have to stay in the car for the crossing or is he allowed on deck?

Apologies if this seems a stupid question; having never travelled by ferry before it's not like I've noticed any other hounds on board.

I don't want to stick the dog in the car for the crossing as it's not fair on either of them.

Check the websites of Irish Ferries and Stena for info.
I looked some time ago.
I think the dog has to stay in car.
Coming from france (over 20 hrs trip) dog wink has to book a cage on the ferry.
Maybe a fastferry would be the way to go for you.

Agree with last post - check ferry website.

Last time I crossed to Cork, there were kennels on the after deck, but out in the open. So you could walk them on deck, but not bring them into the accommodation.

The rules for dogs to Ireland are not the same as to the rest of Europe, because Ireland and UK are deemed low risk for rabies. The crossing from Pembroke/Fishguard to Rosslare is only about 4~4.5 hours anyway.

Not sure if it helps but on the Isle of Wight ferry you can take them on deck and to one (pet friendly) lounge!

Looks like you can book a kennel, from Irish Ferries FAQ's...............

Thanks Philpott.

Hmmm, being Northern as I am, If I were taking my ferret; I'd probably just leave it in my trousers.
