Griff or Chim?

The roof is easier to get in the boot and when in provides a much more usable space. If this is not an issue then nothing really to choose between them other than Griffs command a higher price - see classifieds for comparison.
It all comes down to personal choice but the main buying point would be on condition. Plenty on this if you do a search.

I think it really does depend upon your personal preference. The later Chims 96/97 on were pretty much the same as the Griffs anyway. You'll find most later Griffs only in 500 form so if you want a 'softer engine' such as the 400 or 450 you'll be looking at any year Chim or an early Griff.
Your budget will always get you a newer Chim than Griff, but that said the Griffs hold their value so much better.
FFG has already mentioned the roof, but with a bit of practice I guess this doesn't matter anyway.
Test drive both, choose the one you most like the look of and feel most comfortable with and then find the best you can of that model.

i'm going to go out on a limb here and humbly suggest that perhaps the chimaera just sneaks it given that it seems to be the weapon of choice for babes and cuties to drool over.
While I love the Griff to bits... the chimaera just has that knicker-elastic snapping capability rarely seen in the automotive world.
Of course, if having your car drooled over by gorgeous lovelies isn't for you...then the Griff is the way to go

I've got a Griff. My bloke's got a Chimaera. If you had one of each of the same age and condition, they are effectively the same car. The Chimaera has a bigger boot and so (IMO) is a tiny bit more robust as a daily driver. Apart from that, it's just taste.
Incidentally, close inspection reveals that I do not have a hairy chest. I had a Chimaera before the Griff, and pulled exactly the same number of 'chicks' in each. In fact, chicks apart, they seem to have pretty much the same effect in the 'pulling' department - vis:
**If people are not car-savvy, it might as well be an MX5. Either that or they think you're rich and metaphorically spit at you. These people aren't worth knowing anyway.
**If they are car-savvy, they break down in to two groups.
1) The ones who are jealous (or in the case of a lady in a TVR, the ones who think you are out in your husband's car/shouldn't be allowed to drive a TVR/must be a dyke/are a b!tch) These people aren't worth knowing anyway
2) The ones who think you're loaded and want to know you because they think they're on to a good thing. These people aren't worth knowing anyway. Anyone who uses their car to pull people like this pretty much gets what they deserve.
2) The ones who are interested in the car and want to talk to you because you have a common interest. These people are worth knowing. Big style.

Agree with most of what's been said but would add: Can't vouch for it personally, but I read somewhere that of the Chims made, only about 500 were manufactured with 5.0L engines in them. Since then sadly some have been lost forever in the 124 or so TVR cars that are apparently 'tango'ed' each year. Therefore you look like having made a good purchase IMHO as there are a number 5L Griffs for sale at any one time but only ever 1 or 2 5L Chims. Good luck, and do be careful with it!
