Morning all, does anyone know what progress being made with new Griff factory in Wales? I had a lightbulb moment over my slice of toast this morning and thought why not use the Honda facility I’m Swindon? Complete fantasy or not? Maybe TVR could help themselves and the employees and obviously being Honda builders, quality control would never be an issue!!!

Just an idea to mitigate job losses and speed up Griff launch!!
There's an issue with scale as said.TVR would probably only need the canteen or the toilet block, assuming they have the money.
Honda are closing in 2021, I doubt if TVR will be ready by then

I think I've seen this idea in about 4 different places. The honda site is huge, probably the better place would be many of the warehouses or supplier business surrounding the site as Honda wanted all spulliers/stock to be within an hour. They didn't hold stock themselves.
TVR factory was being built in Ebbw Vale because of the subsidies offered by the EU (until brexit) and the Welsh Government.
The EU plowed money into Ebbw vale, being an area of poverty. They turned the old steeleworks into “The Works” , a flagship £350m regeneration project funded by the EU redevelopment fund that houses the £33.5m Coleg Gwent, where the EU fund Welsh apprenticeships.
They paid out £30m for the new train station and railway line, £80m improvement to the Heads of the Valley road and the town center had £12m for various upgrades and improvements.
I can't see Swindon/the government providing any sort of incentives for Swindon.

Believe the factory has stalled – as it was a lot of EU money being used for the build, it is a requirement that the building contract be tendered from the EU, a process which could take a year to complete and an oversight which was not considered.
But because of the design ( I Stream ) it should be possible to build the car in a pop up factory which could be quickly set up in any space.
My understanding is that the later is the option being considered for the first batch, but this is also delayed due to supplies not yet being ready.

TVR have, in the past, been much criticised for 'parts bin design' but it is this very supply situation that makes 'parts bin' a valid option.Steve

Sourcing parts for a few cars each year can't be the easiest and most economical way of doing things so parts bin must be the most favourable option so you can coat tail one of the bigger manufacturers.
Having everything bespoke or making things in-house must have enormous cost and QC ramifications, as TVR found out in the past.
