Buying Stocks/Shares in TVR?
Discussion
cant get shares yet, but if smolonski does not want to float the company and have others owning the company - he should raise a Bond issue for TVR,may be a long way off, but that way the company would raise funds , and put money back into TVR which is what they need to improve the cars if they want to have a global brand where cars are reliable. from a personal point of you, i love my chim, and often consider buying a new tvr, but when you have a car for say 50k as the new sagaris, you would not expect anything to go wrong with it, which i guess is what puts the wider buying market off, and might choose to buy german!,,,,,,,,..

But that assumes that he needs additional funding beyond what he can invest into the company himself/from profits.
For a small company like TVR, a bond issue would be very difficult as the company will have to be investment grade rated or else use a monoline insurer as a credit wrapper. Using a monoline would greatly increase the cost of the bond issue to TVR (and would a credit wrapper go near a company the size of TVR? I would say that's very doubtful. In fact, I think it's also very doubtful that the much-needed institutional investors would touch TVR bonds).
Also, with a bond issue TVR would lose flexibility as it would need to make scheduled payments. Not such an issue for the mega corporates, but it could be the sort of thing to push a company like TVR under, while trying to cope with fluctuating demand (imagine what another recession could do to the specialist sports car market).
There are other options such as selective private placements etc, but unless TVR really need the cash, then (IMHO) there's no point in looking at alternative methods of obtaining structured funding...
hi Nuggs, I agree , i did nt want to get technical, and said it would be unlikely. Looking longer term and where they want the company to go.
At the end of the day it is a small car company that ''as investors'' would not touch, but setting a basic bond issue that has sufficient coupon to cover the clients income, but the security has to be marketable, or they could issue strippable securities so tvr would not have the burden of payments they would be bought and sold in the market, but in complete agreement, its not going to happen, its not a marketable option for investors, so i guess we will never see the idicative bids/offers on the finance pages..just an idea!
