spider wheel colour

hi, does anyone know the closest colour match for spiders. I have a large chip on one of my spiders but can't seem to match the colour very good, have tried Halfords alloy paint and a Mercedies briliant silver (i think) but both seem a little dark at the moment. Thanks in advance.

Hi Pat
I have repaired my wheels once or twice, and can confidently say that you can't see the join.
If the scratch is deep, buy yourself a small tin of 'Davids Isopon'called p38, or any other car body filler, don't get confused with P40, as this type of filler has glass fibre strands in it, this allows you to bridge a rust hole in body work.
I also went to Halfrauds for my spray, purchased 3 differant types, Merc/Ford/Vauxhall, i tried all three, and the Vauxhall metalic silver was by far the best match.
Do make sure that you degrease the wheel with Meths or surgical spirit, do not use White spirit, as that alone will leave its own greesy residue.(and never use cellulose thinners as this will remove the paint)
Also buy yourself a few grades of Wet and dry paper.
Firstly 320 grit, followed by 800, then 1200.as it will be a good idea to abrade the area around the damage before any filling takes place, for this i would use a tiny piece of the 1200 grit, as this will do less damage to the surrounding finish.
When you are satisfied with your filling and paint work, i would apply a coat of clear lacquer, allowing a bit of time between coats of both paint and lacquer.
Remember to mask over the tiny TVR logo on the spokes.
Are you bored yet??? sorry to go into such a long method, but this system has work very well for me several times.

Thanks for that, I all but had my hand on the vauxhall met silver tonight but my mind went for the merc colour not to worry i'll give it another rub and redo tomorrow. I did fill with the p38 and got it as smooth as a babys bum so should'nt be to bad when the right paint goes on.
