What is a finger follower?

I always hear this phrase on the tvr boards, what is a finger follower?

The valve angle in to the head on the S6 engine is very accute to the cam lobe, which in addition is quite a high lift cam, the valve's are also quite long.

Therefore they put a finger follower in as a seperate hinged component between the valve top, and the cam lobe, so this negates the majority of lateral 'knock' movement from the cam and transfers this into linear movement onto the valve.

These were of not so good quality with a couple of batches early doors and wore out on the cam lobe side, resulting in the valves not opening fully and causing poor running.
