5L Griff Challenger
Discussion
For those waiting for the news, my 5.0 Challenge engine is now in the Griff. WOW!
Its an original Tuscan Challenge Engine from the Telecom supply line team, removed for the change to AJP. It then became a Sprint/hillclimb engine and was upgraded to 5.0 by John Eales along with a full rebuild included steel crank/H-rods and forged pistons. Shortly after it moved to an Ultima and saw a little competition use before the car was sold as a doner vehicle for a 1000bhp twin bike engined project! (which was seen at the Autosport show this year). I then managed to aquire it an it waited til early May for installation in my '94 Griff 500, which i mainly use for Trackdays.
First drive was at Spa-Francochamps last week where after a few minor hic-cups it was slowly bought up to a reasonable pace (hitting 140mph at the top of the hill) before the road tyres went off slowing it down a touch, scarey!
Then onto the Nordschliefe where it produced a few smiles and waves (as the sintered metal clutches made it almost impossible to get out of the carpark withouit spinning the wheels - at any revs). it also helped having the Carbs sticking out of the bonnet!
Suprisingly now, most "foreigners" now know it as a TVR! The word is spreading...a few years ago nobody had a clue what it was!
Back home now after the week for final installation work, including...
custom bonnet work (over carbs), splitter, rear spoiler.
custom oil & tank breather tank for dry sump.
reseat oil coller & remote filter.
Looking forwards to Hockenheim, Nordschleife, Dijon and Magny Cours later this year...
and ofcourse

BTW for those interested
404bhp/420lb-ft but we reckon the RR was "a touch positive"...who cares!
will post some pics as soon as i download
cheers!

hmmm, good question. SHOULD stay with Porker GT3 RS now (on semi slix) did do at Spa, don't know how good he was and how hard he was trying, but i was on road tyres. My last engine was 2 secs slower than GOOD GT3 over 1 mile and its WAY quicker than that now(obviously) and actually easier to drive due to the lightened flywheel and race box.
straight line, in gear etc have not been done yet but i expect around
0-60 3.7s ish
0-100 9 ish
0-150 15 ish.
geared to 150 now with Challenge T5 red rose box which helps alot. dry sump also essential for trackwork as oil surge was already a problem with the last engine (at 310bhp already on semi-slix)
as for cerby / tuscan 2 even Sagaris, shouldn't be a problem in a straight line and they won't stand a chance on track (revs to 8 remember). But then that not what they're built for.
its very smooth down low, Much smoother than injection and runs racing heads with solid lifters.
Around 3-4mpg at Spa!
Best bit? for those who remember the film Bullit with steve McQueen, my sounds like the dubbed soundtrack in the chase scene...F'ing cool...can't get enough of it.
Basically a full spec 5L Tuiscan Challenge car now...
with a boot
Proper weather gear
Full leather
A/C
PAS
Chuffed to bits
its still abit untidy, but hey! its a track car, i'll do the shiney bits later!
