Depends on your insurance company, your'll do doubt recall one of the many questions asked by insurers is 'Is the car registered in your name?' for some companies this is a must, for some they don't care, my Banger is in racegirls name on the V5, as it used to be hers before she bought a new car and inherited the old one, but it is insured by me as the main driver, I asked this question to my insurer at the time of taking out the policy and they didin't mind, but when I was getting quotes some would have required me to transfer the V5 over in my name

I have just looked into this for my GF. It does make a BIG difference. Most won't insure you under the conditions that the car is yours and she is the main driver.

You can however insure yourself as the main driver and her as a named driver. If your really nice you can let her have a go....even if it's quite often :-)
