Gear Knob for TVR S

Looking to replace my current wooden knob (matches dashboard) for a metal one similar to those on later TVRs. Know that selector pattern on gearboxes is different - just looking to lower the height of the gearstick and give it a better look. Anybody know where I can get one and if the threads are compatable?

You can get universal gear knobs that have a plastic insert in, they cut to the thread on the gear lever as you screw it on. Local lax power shops have lots to choose from.

Get yourself a really nice shiny large ball by momo from halfords...looks the biz! Well, did on mine. Remember, the big shiny one!!
Feels nice in the hand, too....about 40 squid or so.

The ones that screw on using a universal nylon thread are (IMHO) rubbish - they nearly always end up coming off.

There is a selection (including those from Leven and Richbrook) that push on and then are held in place with two or three grub screws through the collar - they are much better.

Yes, go for the grub screw type. BTW metal gear knobs yuck, freeze your hand in winter and then burn you in summer. Try it, maybe the looks will outweigh these problems for you.

On the other hand u could get a Griff solid metal ball type....polish of the gate pattern and make a threaded adapter sleeve....IIRC 12mm o/s and 5/16 UNC inside.

Hasn't come off yet...looks fine IMHO.

There are 2 downsides to the metal ball type gear knobs though.
1) they are red hot in the summer and freezing cold in the winter.
2) If you've got skinny, office job, boney hands like I have the metal ball can give you an iritating bruise on the palm of your hand.

I know this sounds like a softy moaning but it's going to be a shock for someone moving from a wooden/leather gear knob.

I bought one of these only with black mesh rather than the silver stuff. It doesn't look garish and it works stops both these annoyances.
