This ad prompted me to think;

What's the shortest length of time you've owned a car?

http://www.pistonheads.com/ads/43186.htm

Up until 6 weeks ago the above car was mine, and I can confirm it is a real beauty, just very suprised to see it for sale again so quickly. Especially since the new owner was on holiday for 2 of the 6 weeks he's owned it.

My problem is not selling cars too quickly, but selling them at all! That's probabally why I have 5 at the last count!

Two weeks ago Mrs Grouch bought a pug 306 I think. Came home from work yesterday and she had swapped it at another garage for a Seat Leon.

Purchased s Shogan Pini for the Wife (she choose it), within a week she was moaning that it was incapable of doing what the salesman said it would do, i.e. pull a horse box with two horses in it, so she went back to the garage complained to the garage, got it swapped for an older Shogan Warrior Sport, which could pull a horse box, , so she had it for about a week.

Had a pug 205 1.9 gti for 3 days, it was a rated car at the time (1990) but i just did not like it next to the nissan 200sx that i had just got rid of.

Look at my profile to see how many cars i have had
i have forgotten a few more than listed.

in the past i have had cars for a few weeks and got bored.
Some i have kept for years, like my MGB GT V8

I purchased an M3 4 years ago. Had it for 4 days before waking up to go to work, went out side and the car wasn't there, it was stolen Probably a blessing in disguise as that got me onto Tivs...

I know you say that you've forgotten some cars in your profile, but where's your Tiv? it's not listed.

Ten or so years ago I bought a secondhand BMW M535 for the wife and she hated it! It was gone in 2 weeks. I now insist she at least drives a prospective purchase first.............

I had a knackered MGB I bought from a chav dealer in 1978, after much farting about and loan cars he agreed to swap it for a much less knackered mini 1000. Got the car at 10.00AM drove straight to Gloucester (2 hours) and swapped it for a 2.3 litre Viva SL.
Back home by 5.00PM with shiny new ( to us) car!

Bought an Audi TT last October, realised the car was rubbish, that VAG dealers were scum, and 4 months later got rid of it. Guess what I then bought?

1 day. I bought an H-reg Golf off a mate for a pint, used it the next morning to pick up my new car, then sold it for a pint to another mate that evening.

Back in the seventies, I bought my second 4 litre Maserati Mistral one day, had a buyer the next day and delivered it as soon as it arrived on the trailer. Never even got to drive the car.

Escort 1.4, owned for 6 days when an unfortunate incident with an oak tree led to our premature separation!

It was not an ideal way to start my college life - 1st night, packed student bar falling silent as the enter and ask who's left their car half way up a tree on the road to the nearby village!

Owned a Sierra XR4i for 18 hours - found impossible to insure so swapped it in a deal for a Peugot 205GTi. Mind I was somewhat younger then of course.

Decided recently that I should have a sensible car for taking baby to nursery in and using for driving to work and back.

Mate of a mate bought a diesel astra from the auctions which I went to buy from him. Paid for the car at 16:05, drove to the petrol station to add diesel, then set off for the 30 minute journey home. Got to within 1 mile of home and the engine went bang (16:45).

Car was picked up by Green Flag (17:20) who told me car was FUBAR and he gave me £50 scrap for it. So, technically, I owned it for 1 hour and 15 minutes. Car was also the most expensive car to run that I have ever owned. Paid £300 for it, got £50 for it scrap = £250 for 75 minutes ownership = £3.33 / minute = £4800/ day = £1 752 000/ year.

Can anyone beat that ?

About 22 years ago.....bought a triumph toledo for £45 (yes it had an MOT), drove it 12 miles home to Bangor and then about 200 yards from home every gear in the gearbox went to neutral. Towed it to the dump. So, about 20mins, but I did get a tenner from the scrap yard for it.
