PERFORMANCE FIGS HELP ?
Discussion
simple answer, a faster one is quicker than a slower one.
seriously, a well sorted 4.3 is probably quicker than a dog of a 5.0.
the age old adage goes - "buy on condition!"
Having said that, I own a 500 and have never heard a pre-cat 4.3 in person, but those who have see, to go moist with excitement so decide how much noise means to you

Hiya,
I was all hung up on buying a 4.0HC over a 4.0 when I was looking around at chims purely because the performance specs were higher. After driving three 4.0 HC's which did not fit the bill for one reason or another I reluctantly tried a standard 4.0 which was by far the smoothest, fastest and best looked after out of the bunch so I bought it
Like everyone says drive it and see what you think, specs on paper count for nothing when you buy a 5.0 with a knackod cam, low compressions and a misfire!
Happy hunting
Keith

hhmmmm, 20 more BHP and 1/4 sec faster than the Porker 911 turbo out at the same time....
coincidence????? or marketing?
still, basically they got faster, power increases had to come to overcome the effects of the necessary adding of cats, emmission stuff on the rv8.
however, many people prefer the freer reving noisier early 4L cars, with the very rare BV (big valve) cars being the champ, but for outright power the 5L should do it. the bigger it got the "torquier? it got", but drive a few and see what feels the best for you.
now, having a rev happy 5.0 (7.8k
), I must say i'm converted to the revier engines...MUCH easier to drive. andy

To give the man what he wants - book figures:
......................4.0...........4.5.........5.0
Max RPM.........6250..........6350........6000
Power BHP.....240@5600...285@5500...340@5500
Torque ft-lbs..270@4000...310@4500...350@4000
0-60.................5.1...........4.7..........4.1
0-100..............12.5..........11.2........10.2
'Max Speed'.......152...........160.........167
Grin....................
.............
.......
Points to note BHP=Blackpool Horsepower, and 0-60 figures are just numbers. As my esteemed fellow PH'ers have noted, there is also considerable variation from car to car, engine to engine.
What you need to understand Burnie old chap is that a TVR is in a totally different league to the S2000 - 'nice' as that car is. The in-gear overtaking acceleration from 45 to (ahem) 60+
is unbelievable, be it a 4, 4.5 or 5. Burn me at the stake (BBQ steak anyone?) as a heretic chaps, but most drivers won't really tell the difference between the engines off the track. Most people (me included) rarely need to hit the throttle stop on the road.
Greetings! As everyone says , all three engine sizes offer throttle response at 2000 + like an S2000 gives at 7000 .. and just like any other car God is in the detail , try and view as many cars as you can before taking the plunge. When driving , you won't have time to ponder how many horses are under the bonnet!
