TVR Paint - £500 for 1/2 Litre of Spectraflair Silver?

Hi everyone.
Does that quote sound right? It's from a local body shop and whilst it's more than enough paint for the job I've been told that's the minimum they can source for the job and it'll be £500 as that's what they'll be charged.
Does this sound right? Is it available anywhere else does anyone know?

Ok,
Something I can answer here.
The actual proper flake is made by a company in US called JDSU.
It is the medium flake , they make three sizes.
In order to purchase this direct you have to go through a European agent.
In my case it was through Germany who directed to a sales agent in UK located in Newcastle Staffordshire.
In order to get hold of it you have to sign various documents as for usage, usage is banned in certain areas of production.
They like to know where the flake is going as it is Infact used for the production of the holographic images on bank notes too.
I received a 10g sample.
I got involved because companies in the U.K. wanted to charge ridiculous amounts the the flake or prepared flake in the binder.
In fact all of the people offering at the time had the incorrect sized flake, god knows where it came from.
There is approximately 26 grams to the litre and they were asking £50 per gram.
I after taxes and import duty got it down too less than £6 a gram. Minimum order was 1kg at that time.
This would of included chromaflair flakes too.
You have to remember also, this is just a flake and is added to a clear binder, the amount of flake per gram matters , the binder maters, and I suppose is individual to each car.
Another thing , the actual base coat silver is of paramount importance and they used several different paints.
Temperature when laying it down matters, it has an affect as too how the flake is suspended in the binder.
This is why it is extremely difficult too match a spectraflair panel even if one knows the exact formula and base.
The chaps at S&D will probably have the original paint sheets which may have the correct base and gram per binder ratios, I doubt it though.
This was 6 years ago though so prices etc will have changed.
The price you have been quoted is probably near the mark as it was pretty much the same as companies back then wanted.
