I don't know how everybody feels in here, but personnally I'm sick and tired always to read threads in the likes of "my speed six has just gone bang", "my engine needs a trip back to Blackpool", etc.

So I allow myself to ask you the following:

If you own a Cerbera Speed Six/Tuscan/Tamora and if your engine works perfectly AND hasn't needed a rebuild, please tell us:

1) the mileage and the production year of your car
2) how long you have had it
3) how many miles you do in it
4) + anything you feel like saying
(the first three points just for the sake of statistics)

It's about time owners who have actually been trouble-free with their engine speak louder
Thank you for your contribution!

Good old TVR boys, always the first to post in the early hours.

Off to bed now.

Without tempting fate: bought the car new in Sept 01 and the car has just had it's 6k service, with 5,800 miles on the clock.

The car is now used daily, in rush hour traffic and behaves impeccably and has not burned a drop of oil in one years ownership.

On the contrary, I bought a 4.5 Chim (97R) for the six months until delivery, and it was on the back of a trailer back to the garage 3 times and only did 1500 miles in those 6 months. it only had 14k miles on it when I bought it.

It would also appear, albeit engines not going bang, that the 4.2s seem to have a lot of engine niggles?!

I love my S6!

October 2000. 20500 miles. No engine rebuilds... yippee. Used almost daily (at least 3 out of 5 days a week) for my 30 mile round trip commute.

Built Sept/Oct 2001 I've now done 10,600miles with no engine problems. I know countless people with similar stories and about 5 people who have had trouble. I would like to think they finally have the problems sorted.....fingers crossed.

Tamora, Feb'02, 6400 miles - sweeeeeet.........!

And I asked on the Tuscan forum, and there's one at 36000 miles, another at 26000. Not bad for an unreliable engine....

October 2000 Tuscan. 3600 miles when I bought it 8 months ago, 10100 miles now. No problems at all.

I drive about 5 miles each way to work every day so never really warm it up properly (although I stick below 2500 rpm until the oil is at least 30-40 degrees, and even then I can't go mad because of the traffic!)

I feel really sorry for Speed 6 owners whose cars do have to go back to the factory - I think TVR should issue a 40000 mile warranty with the engines rather than a 2 year one as I would imagine a lot of cars are out of warranty by the time they develop this known fault - why was there no recall?

I do feel fortunate to have not had any problems, and as each 1000 miles goes past I feel more confident that my car is fine - but there is always that doubt at the back of my mind which resurfaces when I talk to people who have had problems.

I still love my car though and wouldn't let the engine problems put me off buying another TVR.

Not half as sick as we feel when our engines go bang !

It is good to see that some of the Speed Six engines are performing well. I'm sure they'll sort it out soon.

Tuscan S Nov 01' - 6200 miles

Major problem! Leaving country for a year so I have had to ask those nice people at Henley to sell the car for me

Seriously though it has been fantastic with no problems....

My Tuscan has now done 12500 miles, was first registered in January 2000 (Car number 5!?). I've had it for just over a year and nearly 5000 miles with no probs (I've got everything crossed as I write this!)

I only use it once or twice a week for pleasure, when the weather allows, and never open her up before she's fully warm. Although it took me MONTHS to feel confident enough to get the three shift lights on (even coming from an Esprit V8). Haven't done any track days in this one, but that's purely down to lack of time.

Even though she's been my favourite car so far and totally reliable, I am putting her up for sale because of all the speed 6 horror stories I've read on this site. If the engine going bang is inevitable, I don't want to own the car when it happens.

Karl,
It is really sad to see you have come to think of it that way
Many owners seem to be keeping their cars despite the trouble they have encountered, whereas you sell yours without having had any troubles!
I'm gobsmacked!

But what it basically comes down to is that if we part company on good terms, then she will always remain my favourite car, and I will evermore continue to be pro TVR, telling all and sundry what brilliant cars they are. If my engine should go, I'm afraid that it will taint my opinion and leave a bad taste.

I also have to be at least a little bit sensible. The thought of spending £5000 on a rebuild when the cars value seems to dropping like a waxed anvil could be seen as financial suicide.

Sure, but who buys an expensive car without being sure of losing a lot of money?

Actually you are completely right, I really don't know if there could be something which may make you keep it...
