Many griffs chims etc seem to be putting out 200-300bhp. Some even less than 200 IIRC. Some more than 300.
But what was (or what is) the potential of the engine in its different CC sizes, tuned up as standard, with and without turbos etc.
Looking back, Im just wondering why TVR felt the need to develop newer more powerful engines. Might learn something in the process too

IIRC there were some 400+++ tuned with turbo engines out there, which must be sub 4 seconds in a 0-60 sprint.

It boils down to how much money you want to spend and the emmisions that control the horsepower, a 400 bhp road engine that will pass emisions will need serious head work or after market heads on a 5.5 ltr would cost around 8K plus the management system, drop some turbos into the equasion and you can acheive 600+ bhp and even deeper pockets!!

Some years ago, Rovercraft built a 4.5 with twin turbos which IIRC put out more than 700 lbs. ft. of torque. Not sure about the BHP though.
Think it ended up in a single seater.

One of the brothers got killed in it iirc at Brighton. The torque figure was good but bhp wasn't quoted possibly because it was a lower figure.

Haughins (former TVR dealer oop north) converted several Wedges in the late 80's with Spintex superchargers, mostly based on the 3.5, but at least one 4.0. Very neat installations, none of the massive heat probs.with turbos, or lag. IIRC they were quoted as giving a net 60 BHP (after losses from the crank drive)on a c. 200BHP 3.5 engine. I'm sure the technology must have moved on from there though. I think Green V8S is doing something with forced induction at the moment.

Thanks, that's interesting. I was saving up for another bike in a year or so, but this might tickle me more! Hmm, wonder how much! I suppose you'd also have to consider if the engine would be damaged in any way. But I agree, enough heat there already without the extra furnace from a turbo.
You could mount the turbo up front where the headers join together. Those flemming/sprintex kits were expensive and unwarrantied if overdriven. I once thought about one and got all the data but chose turbo/s. A single turbo makes a lot of sense especially if the headers are in need of replacement. Go for new manifolds and a single turbo
