can you polish the exhaust pipes/manifold?
Discussion
Not really looked at a Tams bonnet close up but if its anything like the Chims then you can see the manifolds through the vents. When polished up and really shining they look great viewed from outside.
As its the only part of the engine that can be seen from outside I do try to keep mine looking good (ACT stainless), gives a false impression to everyone that the rest of the engine is as clean.

If its anything like mine its nice to lift the bonnet and show off your engine bay
And from his Chim days, Big Al knows this better than most... Nuggs: Right Al, I've cleaned the engine like you said
Big Al: Very good, now come and have a look at mine
Nuggs (blinded by shinyness of Al's engine bay): B

Not sure about the manifold but I use Autosol on my stainless pipes with good results.
....alots of elbow grease and lots of tubes of Autosol. Only thing I removed when cleaning was the HT as they got in the way.
Everything is original
That is fantastic

That is fantasticAll you've used is Autosol? You've not had bits sent off for chroming?
Thanks.
I did uses a very fine wet n' dry on the manifolds right when I made a start cleaning the engine and then spent hours polishing them using Autosol. I’ve got it to a point all I use is Autosol and lots of it.
The only draw back not chroming the engine is that it tarnishes over time.
Fortunately a quick polish with Autosol brings it straight back (as the photo).

Having seen Andy's V8 I can confirm that every single piece of metal in there from the manifolds and heads through to the metal brake lines is original and all are polished to near enough mirror finish.
And you guys wander why he never finds the time to drive the thing...
It does look absolutely amazing though!!
you can get polishing kits.
they come with some rubbing compounds and a number of different mops.
you use these with an electric drill.
Much easier than autosol...though still takes ages.
I did all my frame on one of my motorbikes.
Have a look in a bike mag or the net for polishing kits.

Nice, but trust me - Andy's is in a diferent league.
I wasn't opening up for a competition
. Agreed Mr Sheen's looks unbloodybelievableV8Smith's is still my favourite though as it gives me something half way realistic to aim for. Mr Sheen's on the other hand is way beyond my reach as I have to go to work sometimes

Don't forget you also need to find time to drive the damned thing...
Ain't that just the truth. Work gets in the way of that too
