Speed 6 throttle bodies...

I have to face it the standard throttle bodies on my '02 Tuscan S are rubbish.

After being adjusted, tuned or whatever, the engine runs absolutely sweet as can be. But quickly the
tune returns to a state where the engine will pink
under high load and there is a small flat spot before the revs rise when first touching the accelerator.
It still runs great. It's just not perfect.

So I was thinking of getting some uprated (bearing?) versions fitted. But as far as I remember only Dreadnaught in Scotland did these, which is basically too far really.

Does anyone know of anywhere closer to Nottingham where the newer ones can be fitted and how much they cost?

The only other place I know is Shane at SFR Engineering - Stockport near Manchester. About £300 + VAT and a week or two's wait. They rebush your existing setup and upgrade it. I think Dreadnought do theirs on an exchange basis - but they will not let anyone else do the work - you have to drive to them. Other than that, I am not aware of any other current options, but that's not to say they don't exist.

I heard once that Dreadnought had Hexham Horseless as their "English distributor". Can't confirm this, but would give them a call to see.

Ended up going with SFR in Stockport myself.

Did yours have similar symptoms to mine beforehand and
has it resulted in an engine that runs really sweetly for, say, over 6 months at a time?

Not had mine done - just something I know and will bear in mind. Shane at SFR smoothed the running on mine by changing the HT leads (purple OEM from TVR) for the later black ones - and also readjusted the throttle bodies. Car has been much better since then.

James (JSG v2.0) had the fully monty done on his so I leave it for him to respond. Shane at SFR did tell me that TVR were in the provess of adopting his re-design of the bodies with the bearings - but that was ages ago. I have no idea whether the current design is different, but you would hope it would be.

Heard the same from him when I was having mine done. No idea whether that got finalised or not. Regardless, I put about 10,000 miles on my car after the throttle bodies were done and the problem (lousy constant-revs running) never recurred. A sequence of events meant that the car was at SFR for 3 weeks, though, which I felt was a bit excessive, but other than that, yeah, it was worth it.

I didn't know that, I was always led to believe that SFR only did the bushes for the throttle bodies! I'll bear that in mind on my next service (will try TVR Power this time )
