TVR - Too Girlie?
Discussion
Peter Stevens, designer of the MG X80 to be launched at the Motor Show next week is quoted in Autocar today as saying that the model is aimed "..at those who think a TVR is too girlie".
I wasn't aware that I was driving a girlie car (whatever that means) - anyone here feel that they are?
What are the attributes of a girlie car? Curvaceous, of course. Beautiful, undoubtedly. Fickle and expensive to run, OK. Likes to be regularly serviced and polished.....I think I'd better stop there, he's right!

Errrr this is the company that gave us that true muscle car the MGF with limp wrist hand signals noted in the drivers hand book. Seriously though he cannot be serious with the design of the car, touched of the Calibra come to mind when looking at the X80.
How can you seriously place a TVR against the X80, I dare to suggest that this is more Scooby competition.

Guys (and girls - as some of you chaps weem to be swinging your handbags around a bit here!)
The MGF and X80 are about as similar as chalk and cheese. One is a mass market, cheap roadster and good on them for going for a mid engined layout when it must have been very tempting just to copy the MX5. Whilst its not entirely to my taste, as a Pistonhead I'd rather see non-Pistonheads ('Numpties') driving MGFs than dull Euroboxes.
Anyway, on to the X80. Rear wheel drive coupe with a 4.6 litre V8 up front putting out 385bhp. Will see off quite a few TVRs - particularly those designed in the late 80's/early 90's (i.e. Griff and Chimaera). Given this set up I fail to see why anyone would think the X80 is aimed at the Subaru market. Particularly at £50k a pop. The closest car I can think of is the Cerbera. It will be very interesting to see if the X80 will go round corners.....
Anyway - my point is that talk of MG and limp wrists is 1) on dodgy ground factually and 2) is the sort of thing I'd expect to hear on the playground, not on Pistonheads.
I for one applaud ANY manufacturer who has the balls to bring out a big engined evil sports car (even if they did nick someone elses still-born design).
So well done MG - keep it up. And when are we going to see the V8 engined Rover 75 estate?
P.S. I still think the X80's styling leaves something to be desired, although it does look better in the recent pictures

Christ people, lose the chips. What I think Mr Stevens is trying to illustrate, is that in his opinion, the TVR is the most "macho" (for the want of a better word) car on the market and the X80 seeks to make it look girlie.
Its just an off the cuff, PR remark. Chill FFS.
Anyway, why slag Rover off...a lot of people on here rant on about owning a British car...Rover are British, so if you think that way, support them, dont slag them - I think they are doing a fine job with a limited R&D budget.
