Driving down the Autoroute near Brussels yesterday I notice a row of TVRs sitting outside a Lotus dealers, whilst I was looking at this I failed to notice the car hidden in the central reservation, until it took my photo 150kph in a 120kph limit?

Anyone know what the chances of getting a letter through the post are, and do the Belgique courts/DVLA have a reciprocal arangement with the UK?

Simon

Bit of a bummer to get nicked looking at a TVR not driving one!

Dont think you'll here anything . I got done in Belgium twice, once heard nothing, 2nd time they pulled me over (at 115mph) in an unmarked Vectra so was an on the spot fine of £50. Seem to remember it costs them too much to bother unless they get you there and then. Here's hoping hey?!

Edited to say: No points by the way in either case!!!!

Highly unlikely you'll get a letter. If you were stopped on the spot you would have got a 150Euro/£90 fine. No reciprocal arrangement with DVLA so no points issue to worry about.

Look at my postings on this thread for more detail.

Concentrate next time! If you're goning to do it, DO IT, just don't DO IT without realising.

Edited to add link with more details of police speeding policy in France and Belgium.

Erm . . .

Sorry to disagree but I drove through Belgium in the spring with a colleague and 4 MONTHS (!) later received a fixed penalty notice from Liege police for doing 50kph over the limit on a reduced speed part of the Autoroute. Cost them 242 Euros!

If it was my car I might have been tempted to bin it but as it came through the company they had to pay up.

No points though.

Bugger - got flashed in Belgium about a month ago and thought I had got away with it

BTW the row of TVRs outside the Lotus dealer is in fact the TVR dealer in Belgium, on the main motorway in to Gent coming from Calais

Unfortunately, that's more like it. I once did 40 kph over the limit on a motor way and got a 250,- Euro fine. Still, I was lucky for not having been pulled over. If they pull you over they try to collect the fine on the spot. If you haven't got enough money with you they accompany you to the nearest bank. If you don't manage to bring up the money they take your car until you do. Belgian police isn't very funny.

The stupid thing is, our Police force do not have the authority to give on the spot fines for tourists speeding on our roads.

Maybe there's a time limit on this - like the 14 days over here? Perhaps the ticket was technically invalid?

This is so there is no chance of coruption. I remember being on a coach holiday on France (before I could drive, so a number of years ago) and we got nicked for speeding. The coach driver passed over 200 cigarettes and away we went. I was in the 2nd row of seats so I saw it.

I think most of that time was spent with the penalty notice sitting on the desk of our leasing company!

Paid and forgotton now anyhoo.
