Before anyone else gets in there start with the Stepper motor.
Give it a good clean and see if that cures the problem. If so won't cost you a penny.

Stepper has been cleaned many many times. Engine is just getting a little old now and I'm trying to replace a few bits here and there.

Rather than change stuff speculatively, test the existing sensor and replace it if it is faulty. Otherwise you risk throwing time and money at the car for no gain, or even worse damaging something else along the way. Sometimes there's no other option but swap components 'just in case', but that should only be the last resort.

LR dealer should have one, although it'll probably be the Sagem equivalent.
