Hands up if you want to see TVR bring an LSx range engine into the fold....

(can a mod make this a poll, would be interesting to see what owners and potential owners want)

No. Quite happy with the straight six.

No, stick to the S6 and develop it further (more reliability and torque (5 liter?)). If they succeed, it can go on for years and years (like e.g. the Porker boxer engine) and it is much more distinctive.

definitly, it would banish the 'will it won't last' worries at a stroke and restore the proper V8 rumble

Restore proper V8 Rumble? Its been a while since TVR built anything that feels like its got a V8 under the bonnet.

A V8 Cerb certainly doesn't feel like its got a V8 under there.

I know of a garage that is looking to offer something like this as an "upgrade" in the Cerbera.

Also heard on the grapevine that TVR were/are looking into this.

And no I will not/cannot provide further info. Those involved will announce it when they are ready.

I have always been a fan of American V8s and the whole drag racing and hot rodding scene, I still think the sound of a top fueller is one of the most awesome sounds ever made by the internal combustion engine. I used to own a 67 V8 engined Plymouth Barracuda, which was powered by the smallest mopar lump in the range, with a silly little two barrel carb, but it still had enough low down lazy torque to fill the road up with tyre smoke very easily, however it soon ran out of puff if you really gave it some stick.

If you had asked me a few months ago I would have said yes, TVR should use a tried and tested modern LS series Chevy lump as one of their engine options, however............
having recently bought and AJP8 powered Cerb I have totally fallen in love with the engine. The AJP8 is a marvel, as far as I am concerned, light flywheel, revs like a motorbike and goes like stink somewhere just after 3.5k RPM and sound like some very exotic Italian number, basically it just feels very special to drive.

So the answer has to be no, they should develop a more EU emission friendly, 32 valve headed version of the AJP8, though I'm sure nobody will take much notice of what I think!!!!!

Sorry getting a bit carried away, have had a fantastic weekend driving the Cerb, even in some pretty foul weather conditions, and loved every minute of it.

If TVR develop their own V8 then I'm all for it but not importing one...

Yep, let's have Yank V8 power- so many stories of outrageous bills for "gone west Speed Sixes".. when you buy a Trevor you don't expect Lambo running costs, during TVR's halcyon days (nineties),the (relative) underbonnet simplicity of the Rover engined cars was a big plus. Ford's Mustang 4.6 is another candidate.

Does anybody here really believe they haven't looked at it already? It's right in front of them, they can't miss it.

All they need to do is 'stamp their own mark' on it. A TVR power version of the lsx etc. I'd expect to see a tuned lsx in a tvr sometime soon.

I,ll take notice and will second third forth etc that.
Preferably with Quad overhead cams and variable timming that revs to 9000rpm +

Oh PH I've just woke up and been sleep typing again.

Please no...... sure this will offend people, but having it's own engine is what makes TVR a special company and you'd go from a true performance engine to one the is produced in 100,000's every year and is trucks, 4x4's and heavy sports cars.... cheap and reliable but go buy the new marco's if you want that or a Noble if a ford V6 is more your thing....

Bespoke parts are what makes the cars special and having done several 100K miles in various tvr's over the years it was a rover V8 that died at 40k with cam wear... not the TVR engine, treat them like a race engine and they last well and drive like nothing else, there is no character in a modern US V8...

If you go this way, you could use Stack intruments, and VAG climate control system, Bosch ABS and Stability control, recaro seats.... airbags.... but then is that still a TVR.....???? To me no.... depends on the market and customers they are now after....

It WILL be good to have a reliable V8 with sensible servicing in a Tiv again. Say no more.

Can't understand this obsession with putting the american LSx engine in the TVR. I personally just don't think the 'lazy V8' image would suit TVR's current range.

The cost of developing the TVR chassis so it's production ready for this engine would be as significant to TVR as the cost for developing their own speed 6. It's one of TVR's unique features that it is bold enough to develop it's own engine, and for a vast majority of the time, it's a world beater. Just my opinion, but they would be better spending the money on perfecting their own engine.

Notwithstanding any of the above, if they were looking at outscorcing a new engine, why not go the BMW route, they do both sixes, and V8's, and would banish any doubt about reliability.

There's good reason behind putting in an LS type V8, its relativly small compared to modern V8's, its reasonably light, it's quite cheap and readily available (try buying a new BMW V8, froma company thats notorious for being picky about what its engines go in).

Its also rather good as its not a 'lazy V8' it revs pretty well and has enormous service intervals and provides a load of torque and this is with the current engine managment. Stick an aftermarket ECU on it and lighten the flywheel etc etc and it would serve very well I think.

I personally wouldn't want an imported engine developed by someone else (e.g. Chevrolet LS variants) for a different car then modified to work with a TVR. If I wanted that I would have bought a Noble, Morgan or Marcos. One of the reasons I (and many other people as witnessed throughout the postings on Pistonheads) buy TVR instead of another marque is the Speed Six. For me the day TVR import a engine is the day TVR become less exclusive and the brand diminishes.
