I keep looking at the various V8S's in the classified section and I am being lured away from the planned Griff purchase by their stylish charms.
What kind of gremlins do the V8S's generally have, and can anyone give me an idea of how their performance and roadholding compares to a Chim or a Griff.
The more I look at them... the prettier they seem, (also I cant stop thinking that the Griff has a big arse now someone has kindly pointed it out to me)
Help...

I debated V8S vs Griff and ended up with a Griff because:

Griff has double wishbones all round, V8S has trailing arms at the rear. Contemporary roadtests reveal this to lead to less compliant ride and handling. Trailing arm itself can rot.

Sit in one - I'm 6' 2" and found more leg room in the Griff. More stylish dash and interior styling too IMHO.

V8S only comes in 4 litre guise.

But:

V8S is more of a 'classic'.

Engine bay access seems to be better (due to the flip front - but check the front lower edge to see if it's been bashed against the ground).

You'll get more V8S for your money than an equally-priced Griff.

Oh good, another opportunity to post this (V8Smith's V8S):

Agree with Podie that the V8S is a 'forgotten gem'. In good nick and well-tuned, they go like stink and sound fantastic! They also seem bigger crowd-pullers than the later models (now I'm sure that's not your thing, but a bit of appreciation never goes amiss)

Whichever you choose, V8S or Griff, you're hardly likely to be disappointed. The thing is to test drive lots and see what's out there and how you like them.

I'm sure you'll be aware that there is an 'S' gathering coming up on the 14th and a 'Griff Growl' on the 20/21st....

Two opportunities to decide with loads of cars to help you make up your mind.

Who is "someone"? Fair point, though!

The V8S is a lovely car, no doubt about that.

If you really want to see a fat arse though, take a look at a Chimeara

Plus, the Chimaera wears an inflatable waistband.

How's the wrist Quinny ?

Best design TVR ever did, with the possible exception of the Tuscan racer.

Ooops..no offence meant in the arse department...
Thanks for the general advice, I have test dricven a 5.0 Griff...and at 6'3" and 16 stone plus I found it a remarkably comfortable (snug) fit. I take it the V8S is 'snugger'.
What kind of performance and drive do they give... and what kind of BHP do they offer.
I do think Griffs have an awsome front end...(not so tubby)...............so hard to decide..............
and where are the events that people mentioned???

The S series have more interior spacethan Griffiths etc, in my experience. Pop over to S Club Heaven at Silverstone next Sunday and you can try for ourself?

I agree, I do feel more confined in a Griff

Yep, definitely more room in the S. I went from S3 to Chim (which has a lovely bum, thank you very much - much nicer than the featureless Griffith ar5e)

I'm 6'1" but tall in the back - my head touches roof equally in both, but S had more shoulder and knee room.

Agree ride much improved in later model - pot holes rattle slightly fewer fillings than in the S.

As an everyday car, Chim's comfort, one piece roof, and the V8 I wanted so badly won out. But the Griff boot is smaller, and the roof a pain because of small boot lid, and so not much better from a practical view. Agree interior far more stylish, but down to individual taste!

The Griff HAS a boot..?!? Actually, does the S..? Well, at least with the S the roof goes in and out

I'd concur with Kieran about the Chim being useable everyday - mine often has a server or PC's sat in the boot.. not to mention loads of other junk.

Try the V8S, try a Griff and maybe even try a Chimaera. See which floats your boat.
